Rip Kirby Adventure in Art (1947, King Features Syndicate), a large promotional brochure created to introduce newspaper editors to comics and features that were not yet in their paper--in this case, Rip Kirby by Alex Raymond. Attractive, four page die-cut promotional brochure, 11-in.x 16-in on heavy card stock with ten Rip Kirby daily reproduced from 1947, each 10-in. x 2.75-in. A rare item that saw very limited distribution. Comments from the brochure: "As Alex Raymond's Rip Kirby is about to pass the 200 mark in client newspapers, it is fitting to analyze the reason for the strip's ever increasing popularity.There are many adventure strips and quite a few of them are excellent in story, in suspense, in draftsmanship. But there is no other strip published today that is so truly an adventure in story, but in art as well. Rip Kirby has all the elements that an outstanding adventure strip--or rather a detective strip, to be more precise--should have. Editors expect excitement, action, sustained interest, plot and climaxes.
