Batman's First Appearance

Co-created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27. Batman doesn't have any actual superpowers, instead relying on his natural physical prowess and intelligence to fight crime in Gotham City. In Kane's early drawings, before the superhero appeared in any Batman comic books, Batman had bat wings, not a cape. Kane and Finger later changed the costume because they figured wings would be cumbersome while fighting crime.
