Selling Using Our Online Buying System

You can our online buying system to sell or trade over 140,000 individual issues from thousands of titles--everything from the hottest new titles to the oldest comics ever published.

How to sell & trade using our online buying system

  1. First, list the issues that you want to sell or trade. The issues you're selling are stored in your Sell/Trade Offer Cart, which functions similarly to a shopping cart except that it contains issues that you want to offer to us for sale or trade.
  2. Next, submit your offer to us. We will review the offer and provide you with further instructions on shipping us your comics.

Once received, transactions are processed and your comcis are graded within seven to ten business days. You'll then be notified via email to go online and look over your checked in transaction. Your payment or credit will be issued within one business day of our receiving your final approval. You can review the status of your sales/trades at any time.

Shipping Rebates

The shipping rebate is the amount we will add to your credit or cash total to compensate for the cost of shipping your comics to us. Shipping rebates are calculated based on the value of each comic. Sellers shipping small quantities of common, inexpensive comics will be responsible for most of the shipping cost. In the case of higher value comics, the shipping cost is split between seller and mycomicshop.com. Sellers sending high dollar comics typically see all their shipping costs paid and, in some cases, may earn a shipping rebate greater than their actual shipping cost.

Shipping rebates per comic are calculated as follows:

Comic w/ cash value up to $4.00 $0.025 per comic
Comic w/ cash value $4.01 to $10.00 $0.05 per comic
Comic w/ cash value $10.01 to $25.00 $0.125 per comic
Comic w/ cash value $25.01 to $50.00 $0.20 per comic
Comic w/ cash value $50.01 to $100.00 $2 first comic, $0.50 per comic thereafter
Comic w/ cash value $100.01 to $500.00 $3 first comic, $1 per comic thereafter
Comic w/ cash value $500.01 to $1000.00 $5 first comic, $2 per comic thereafter
Comic w/ cash value over $1000 $10 first comic, $4 per comic thereafter

"Cash-in-a-Flash" Payment

When submitting an offer to us, you can choose standard payment or Cash-in-a-Flash payment. Choosing Cash-in-a-Flash means that, for a fee of $25 or $0.10 per comic (whichever is greater), we will expedite the processing of your transaction and mail your payment check by FedEx Next Day Air. Cash-in-a-Flash transactions are usually checked in on the same day we receive them, and never later than the following business day. Because there is a processing fee for this expedited service, we recommend you select this option only if you need your money sent as quickly as possible.

Large Transactions

If your transactions consists of 100 or more comics, the shipping rebate you will receive from mycomicshop.com will equal about half your shipping cost so that we both share the shipping. Your actual share will vary depending on your distance from Texas. International customers are warned that their shipping cost could be substantially greater.

When offering large numbers of issues, we recommend that you break your offer up into smaller transactions, each limited to about 300 individual issues. Doing so will prove easier and faster than generating a single very large transaction. However, if you are offering multiple copies of the same issue, that issue would count as only one item, regardless of the number of copies offered. For example, if you were offering copies each of Thor 320, 321 and 322, they would count as only three items.

Possible Deletion of Lower Grade Copies

Our need for higher grade copies governs whether or not a given comic appears on our want list. In some cases, we may have an adequate supply of copies in grades very good (VG) and lower, especially in the case of less popular titles. Any such lower grade copies may be removed from the list of comics you initially submit to us for authorization. With that in mind, please be careful that you do not send lower grade copies that have been deleted from your authorized transaction.

Sellers submitting high grade issues of popular titles will almost never see these items refused. However, sellers offering lower grade copies of low demand titles will sometimes see some of those issues deleted from the transaction. This means we have plenty of those issues in the lower grade range.

Will your grading match mine?

If you've bought comics from us, you know how we grade and can deal with us with complete confidence. But if you've new to mycomicshop.com, you could be unsure of our grading, even after looking over our grading standards. With that in mind, and especially if you have any reservations regarding our grading style, try submitting only a few comics in your first transaction. If you find our grading fair, you can submit more comics later. On the other hand, if you think we grade too harshly, you can have your comics returned to you via our simple "retraction" option. The retraction option is rarely used by sellers, but should you need it, it's there and easy to use. Our policy is to always sell a comic at the same grade it was purchased at. See mycomicshop.com's Comic Grading Terms.

What if I'm not sure of a comic's grade?

If you are not confident of your grading skills, you should first print out a copy of our Grading Standards and then use them as an easy reference. Doing so should give even an inexperienced individual the ability to determine our likely grade. Then, assuming the seller believes the grade he has selected is likely to fall within the grade range we are accepting, he can then list his comic in the appropriate grade, or use the "grade unknown ??" option. For example, if our system only allows you to offer copies of a given issue in grades FN to NM, that means we are seeking only copies in those grades. If you believe your copy is likely to grade either NM or VF, but you are not sure which, using the "??" option fine. If, on the other hand, your copy is likely to grade lower, please do use "??," or offer the comic at a higher grade when you know it is not that grade.

Whether you select "??" or a given grade, we will still need to do a final grading once we receive your comics. In all cases, we will grade your comics fairly and accurately (we always sell at the same grade we assigned when buying the comic), and you will receive a grade confirmation/adjustment report on which you can then base your final decision. Should you disagree with our grading, you may choose to retract the comics and have them returned to you (see below).

Grade adjustment comics and your retraction option

If comics are found to be in a lesser grade than you originally indicated, a price adjustment will be made that reflects the lesser grade (the grade we will use when selling the comic). You will be notified of any grade adjustments. If you disagree with the grade change, you may retract the comic, meaning we will return the comic to you. The cost of returning grade adjusted comics will be deducted from your trade/cash total (based on the cash amount) at the rate of $3.50 for the first comic returned plus $0.05 per each additional comic.

Hidden Defects

If you submit a comic with a hidden defect (pages missing, coupon out, interior tear or marking, damage to back cover, etc.), please assign the comic the grade you think appropriate and then: 1) Put a Post-It-Note on the comic explaining the hidden defect, or; 2) After printing your invoice, make a notation by the issue number detailing the hidden defect. Then write, "Please see hidden defect notation," across the top of your invoice.

Alternate Covers

If a comic has more than one cover, that is usually indicated by a letter following the issue number. In such instances, we want only the variants listed on our want list. If no letter codes are listed for an issue with variant covers, we will accept any cover variant. To determine which cover variant you have, just click on the picture icon.
