Synopsis Arion shows Superman and his friends what the future world of 2014 will be like. Lois and Jimmy are scavenging supplies from a destroyed Metropolis when confronted by ghostwolves, and rescued by Sirocco. Luthor and Parasite (who is acting like Superman from earlier absorptions) join the fight, driving off the ghostwolves. Arion describes how the world got this way, introducing Khyber, who works behind the scenes to destabilize nations, and makes alliances with various super villains, eventually resulting in world war. Superman confronts Khyber, who throws Superman deep into the Earth's crust, causing a disastrous electromagnetic pulse, global earthquakes, tidal waves, thousands of volcanoes, and nuclear winter, killing billions. Khyber and his allies take over. Luthor, Jimmy, Lois, and several others have allied together in opposition, but are barely surviving themselves. Suddenly, another volcano erupts, and out comes Superman, years after being entombed in the crust. Back in the present, Jimmy cheers at this news, but Arion warns him that this Superman is about to make things much worse.

Notes Story continued from the previous issue and continues in the next issue. The publicity for this issue hit some controversy when an interview with Kurt Busiek on Newsarama on 2007-10-03 included some penciled pages from this issue as a preview, and page 10 included some topless servant girls with Khyber. This was unnoticed by DC until Kurt asked the associate editor about it, who then provided Newsarama with a replacement updated page the same day, the one that was eventually published (with no nudity).
