While Marshall is working nights, Susie club-hops with Tony Bower, a notorious lush. Jane feels she is failing her husband in not putting an end to his daughter's wild ways, and is roughed-up by Tony when she attempts to do so. Susie is impressed with Jane's sense of maternal duty and begins to see her stepmother differently. When Marshall is apprised of the situation, Tony is sent packing with a sucker punch to the jaw.

Following the game, Faith and Larry drink heavily at the Idle Moments Lounge. The police raid the joint, and Faith and Larry flee. As they speed away in Larry's car, a pedestrian is hit and killed. Kate tips-off the police and Faith is arrested. Eventually, she is released with a warning but Larry is sent to a reformatory. Faith's father has died during the turmoil in her life so she leaves school and gets a factory job to support her mother. In doing so, she regains some of her self respect. Football hero Tommy re-enters her life, declares his love, and they marry.
