Keiichi is an ordinary college student, an everyman who has been granted a wish by the beautiful goddess Belldandy. His wish? That she stay with him forever, a boon that turns out to look a lot better on paper than in practice! Keiichi's other problem is the envious yuppie Aoshima, a man who is obsessed with claiming the goddess Belldandy as his own and will stop at nothing to claim her! After Aoshima bulldozes Keiichi's aerial Motor Club on the eve of the college aviation competition, the goddess Belldandy helps Keiichi find the remains of an experimental plane engine, long-buried beneath the campus. Once the plane is assembled and Keiichi is aloft, he discovers that he has to face both good news and bad news: his Motor Club is the hit of the college festival, but his newly excavated plane has a mind of its own and refuses to let Keiichi land! Volume 7 - 1st printing. "Mustang Aces of the Ninth & Fifteenth Air Forces & the RAF!" Written by Jerry Scutts. Art by Chris Davey. Although best remembered for its exploits with Eighth Air Force units, the Mustang, in its various marks, actually made its combat debut firstly with the RAF in the Army co-operation role, and then with the USAAF's tactically-optimised Ninth and Fifteenth Air Forces. Seeing action in Western Europe and the Mediterranean, pilots like Glenn T Eagleston, John J Voll and Samuel J Brown notched up impressive scores flying P-51Bs and Ds with the 354th, 31st and 52nd Fighter Groups. Rarely given the exposure enjoyed by their high-scoring brethren in the 'Mighty Eighth', this volume at last sets the record straight on Europe's remaining Mustang aces. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.

Volume 8 - 1st printing. "Corsair Aces of World War 2!" Art by Mark Styling. The speed with which the Corsair was rushed into service as a land-based fighter obliged the pilots to learn on the job. The aircraft soon proved to be superior to the Japanese Zero and played a major part in the destruction of Japan's elite air forces in the South Pacific. Later, in an effort to counter the Kamikaze threat, the Corsair was once again hurriedly pressed into service; this time in its originally intended role as a shipboard fighter. This versatile aircraft saw service with the US Navy and Marines, the British Fleet Air Arm and the RNZAF. Most of the 4FU pilots who recount their experiences within these pages considered it to be the best all-round fighter in the Pacific theatre. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $22.95.

Volume 287 - 1st printing. "Byzantine Armies AD 1118–1461!" Written by Ian Heath. Art by Angus McBride. The Byzantine Empire's disastrous defeat by the Seljuk Turks at Manzikert in 1071 effectively marked the end of what is often described as the 'middle' period of Byzantine history. Thereafter, surrounded on all sides by younger, more vigorous nations, the once all-powerful Empire slipped into a steady decline which, ultimately, was to prove terminal. However, the Empire's demise was anything but peaceful, and, one way or another, for much of the last four centuries of its existence it was to find itself in a state of virtually constant war. This book examines the fascinating history of the Byzantine Empire and its armies from 1118-1461 AD. Softcover, PC/PB&W.

Volume 288 - 1st printing. "American Indians of the Southeast!" Written by Michael G Johnson. Art by Richard Hook. The southeastern people were the descendants of ancient prehistoric Indian cultures, and were probably on the decline when first known to Europeans. Despite being poorly reported in popular histories, they have been well described by several early European traders and by a number of well-known American ethnologists who collected details of surviving native culture in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The white man's expanding plantation society and the tragic removal of the Indian population to Indian Territory saw the end of this farming, hunting and trading culture. This title examines the absorbing history and culture of the native peoples of the southeastern United States. Softcover, PC/PB&W.

Volume 289 - 1st printing. "King George's Army 1740–93 (2)!" Written by Stuart Reid. Art by Paul Chappell. The 18th century was marked by a steady growth in central control of the British Army and a corresponding decrease in the influence enjoyed by individual commanding officers. The most obvious sign of this process was the increasing uniformity of the clothing issued each year to the soldiers. Nevertheless, as far as those who devised the Clothing Regulations were concerned, it was a constant, and invariably quite uphill struggle to enforce compliance. This companion volume to Men-at-Arms 285 takes a further look at the infantry uniforms of the mid-18th century British Army, also covering the various auxiliary infantry formations, such as the Militia, Volunteers, Marines and the troops of the East India Company. Softcover, PC/PB&W.

Volume 290 - 1st printing. "General Washington's Army (2)!" Written by Marko Zlatich. Art by Bill Younghusband. For the early years of the American War of Independence, George Washington's troops were clothed in a variety of uniforms from various sources. With the receipt in late 1778 of over 25,000 uniforms imported from France, much of the Continental army was uniformly clothed in blue or brown coats faced with red. This study by Marko Zlatich focuses on the systems used by state and Continental authorities to procure clothing materials from this point onwards, the quantities they obtained and the specifications of the uniforms themselves. Softcover, PC/PB&W.

  • Issue #13-1ST
Osprey Warrior Series SC (1993-2011 OSPREY) 13-1ST

Volume 13 - 1st printing. "Union Cavalryman 1861-65!" Written by Philip Katcher. Art by Richard Hook. The bombardment by Confederate artillery of Fort Sumter on 12 April 1861 was the spark that finally ignited the American Civil War, quickly bringing thousands of eager volunteers for the Union cause. It proved especially easy to raise cavalry, since recruits naively believed that their military duties would be easier than in the infantry. This book investigates all aspects of the life and experiences of a Union trooper, covering enlistment, training, uniforms, weapons, cavalry tactics and the discrepancy between the recruit's view of swashbuckling charges and heroic hand-to-hand combat and the less glorious reality. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

  • Issue #14-1ST
Osprey Warrior Series SC (1993-2011 OSPREY) 14-1ST

Volume 14 - 1st printing. "Zulu 1816-1906!" Written by Ian Knight. Art by Angus McBride. Zulu military organisation was extremely sophisticated. Warriors were organised into regiments with some form of basic uniform and shields were state-manufactured and owned. Yet, in spite of this sophistication, much of the Zulu's military outlook was extremely primitive: firearms were ill understood, and between 1816 and 1906 the Zulu's maintained their primary reliance on hand-to-hand fighting. In this book Ian Knight investigates Zulu weaponry in detail, and also their society, beliefs and rituals, particularly with regard to ceremonies conducted before and after battles. Tactics, costume and customs are also carefully examined, making this a thorough account of the Zulu warrior. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

Volume 15- 1st printing. "Late Roman Cavalryman AD 236-565!" Written by Simon MacDowall. Art by Christa Hook. The twilight of the Roman Empire saw a revolution in the way war was waged. The drilled infantryman, who had been the mainstay of Mediterranean armies since the days of the Greek hoplite, was gradually replaced by the mounted warrior. This change did not take place overnight, and in the 3rd and 4th centuries the role of the cavalryman was primarily to support the infantry. However, by the time of the 6th century, the situation had been completely reversed. Late Roman Cavalryman gives a full account of the changing experience of the mounted soldiers who defended Rome's withering western empire. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.
