Full Color Edition - Volume 1 - 1st printing. "Case of the Missing Men!" Written by Kris Bertin. Art and cover by Alexander Forbes. Perfect for fans of Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet and Hardy Boys mysteries, The Hobtown Mystery Stories take the teen investigator genre to new levels as they explore small town identity and the surreal. Welcome to Hobtown, a charmingly bleak village (Population: 2,006) and an easy place to get bored if you don't make your own fun. Hobtown Regional High's top girl, Dana Nance, runs the Teen Detective Club-a registered after-school program that makes it their business to investigate each and every one of their town's bizarre occurrences including pagan secret societies, psychic assaults, and possible "wee man" sightings. Their small world of missing pets and shed fires is turned upside down when real-life kid adventurer and globetrotter Sam Finch comes to town and enlists them in their first real case: the search for his missing father. Something strange is going on, and no one in Hobtown will talk about it. It turns out Sam's dad is the sixth man to go missing this year. The rot runs deep in Hobtown, and it's up to the teen detectives and associates to stay alive long enough to crack the Case of the Missing Men! Childhood friends Kris Bertin and Alexander Forbes have built a truly unique and discrete universe in Hobtown-an exploration of small town identity drawing from the world of pulp, filtered through a lens of esoteric spirituality, skewed genre tropes, deft character work, and an incredible eye for detail. Softcover, 6-in. x 9-in., 312 pages, full color. Cover price $24.99.

1st printing. Based on the Story by Mark Twain. Adapted by Seymour Chwast. Mark Twain's lambasting of phony, war-mongering patriotism reinterpreted by one of our finest contemporary illustrators. Written in 1910 in his 70th year, Mark Twain, having lived through 14 wars waged by his own country on others, declined to publish this poetic despairing reproof against patriotism. His regular illustrator Daniel Beard even urged Twain to issue the piece, to which the author replied, "No, I have told the whole truth in that, and only dead men can tell the truth in this world. It can be published after I am dead." It took 13 years after his passing for that prophecy to be fulfilled - and now, another 102 years later, the legendary illustrator and graphic designer Seymour Chwast (himself 92 years young) has fulfilled Beard's dream of enriching the fable with illustration. Chwast brings every aspect of his skills to this interpretation: drawing, design, typography, type design, pastel painting, and computer color all sit alongside each other with Twain's text in pages that expand and pace the original. With another century and a quarter of warfare passed since its writing, Chwast's artwork echoes advances in technology but Twain's message about the pointlessness of patriotism as a marketing hook for death is only more pointed today. SEYMOUR CHWAST (b. 1931) is one of the most highly regarded graphic designers in American history. He has executed hundreds of advertising campaigns, designed multiple popular typefaces, illustrated or been the subject of dozens of books, and created several childrens' books of his own. Referred to as "the left-handed designer," he has worked social commentary into his design for decades, including through his biannual journal The Nose. Chwast founded the design group Push Pin Studios with Milton Glaser, Edward Sorel, and Reynold Ruffins in 1954 and continues to head and work via the company at age 92. Hardcover, 104 pages, PC. Cover price $22.99.

Medea GN (2024 Dark Horse) 1-1ST

    (see more images)

1st printing. Written by Blandine Le Callet. Art and cover by Nancy Pena. Who was Medea, really? Beyond the hearsay, exaggerations, and distortions inflicted by time, this is Medea's story in her own voice, from the luxuriant gardens of her childhood in Colchis to the mysterious island from which she gives her final confession. The legendary sorceress from Greek myth has been cast as many things-a caring mother and a passionate lover who was thwarted by her desires; an independent woman vilified for refusing the tyranny of men; a barbarian who sowed confusion in the regimented world of the Greeks; a formidable witch, mistress of occult forces. Simply put, she was precisely what some would call a monster. And yet, there is so much more to Medea... This provocative tale is created by writer Blandine Le Callet and artist Nancy Peña, with an English translation by Montana Kane. Softcover, 320 pages, full color. Cover price $29.99.
