In ancient Egypt, the royal line of the pharaohs had been driven from their throne by the Persians, who were routed in turn by the Greeks. Harmachis, the last descendant of the royal Egyptian dynasty, vowed to regain his kingdom and drive the foreign queen Cleopatra from the country.
