It's the origin of Manhunter 2070 in "D.O.A.", script and pencils by Mike Sekowsky, inks by Frank Giacoia; On his way back to his satellite home above Jupiter, Starker (aka Manhunter 2070) and his lady friends spot a wanted poster featuring Starker from the local criminal guild; When one of the ladies asks Starker why he hates criminals as much as he does, Starker tells them of his origin; 17 years ago, a young boy named Starker worked with his dad as a Didanium miner; However, space pirated jumped his fathers claim, killing his father in cold blood; The pirates kidnapped young Starker, having him serve as a cabin boy on the pirates space ship; Over the years, Starker was beaten by the pirates, both physically and mentally; However, as he watched the pirates destroy ships and kill innocents, his hatred grew; In secret, Starker watched the pirates, learning how to fight and how to use their equipment; Starker set himself up as a freelance bounty hunter. 36 Pages, Full Color. "Power Girl," script by Paul Levitz, pencils by Joe Staton inks by Joe Orlando; Power Girl breaks through the roof of Gotham Citys Central Electronics factory, interrupting a robbery in progress; The thieves boss is looking for the micro-transformers produced by Central, and claims that even Power Girl cant stop them; Power Girl goes about proving them wrong, by taking out three of the four high-tech thieves; A ricocheting bullet delays Power Girl from apprehending the fourth thief, who flees the scene; The thief uses a high-tech escape vehicle, and takes a detour through the Gotham City Rail Line; This barely slows Power Girl down, who catches up to the thief, and disarms his explosive suicide jacket; Power Girl relaxes outside the city, thinking back on her life; She remembers her life on Argo City, when Zor-L and Allura, her parents, put her in an escape pod to escape Argo Citys death; Her rocket sent her to Earth, to become Power Girl; After calming down from her trip down memory lane, she returns to Gotham. "When the Symbioship Strikes!", script by Paul Levitz, pencils by Joe Staton, inks by Dick Giordano; Power Girl is under attack from Andrew Vinson, trapped in an armored suit; Power Girl recognizes the suit, and gives it a solid punch; However, instead of damaging the suit, Power Girl hurts Vinson; As the G.C.P.D. distracts the suit, Power Girl uses a trick learned by Wildcat, and pins the suit long enough to remove Vinson from it; Once Vinson is removed, the armor transforms into a spaceship; Power Girl reveals that it is the spaceship that brought her from Krypton to Earth; We find out that while Power Girl was being carried from Krypton to Earth, the ship created a virtual environment for her to live in; The ship, called a "Symbioship," taught Power Girl everything she needed to know to grow from toddler to twenty years of age. 36 Pages, Full Color. Harris, pencils by Al Milgrom, inks by Murphy Anderson; While in orbit around Earth in his starship, Hawkman gets a distress signal from Adam Strange; Strange is being hunted, and needs Hawkman to rescue him before he is captured by an alien race called the Vantors; Strange blasts a hole in Hawkmans ship, enters, and the two seal off the hole before the Vantors can board; Then, the two and Hawkwoman launch the ship into Hyperdrive, allowing them to escape; Strange tells the Hawks that all of the various foes of Adam Strange over the years, the Vantors, the Kirri, the Arvese, and the Dust-Devils, all rose up to conquer Rann, the planet under Stranges watch; Strange came to Earth to recruit the help of the Justice League.
