THE TARANTULA ACT I - In the span of years when Morpheus of the Dreaming was held captive by a human sorcerer, the universe knew someone was missing and tried to replace him. In the late 1930s, haunted by dark dreams, Wesley Dodds, a quiet, studious man, the heir to a fabulous fortune, took to wearing a gasmask and going out at night to battle bizarre criminals with names like the Tarantula, the Mist and the Phantom of the World's Fair. Dodds put his foes to sleep with gas and sprinkled sand on them. Somewhere along the line, they took to calling him the Sandman. The curtain goes up on SANDMAN MYSTERY THEATRE! Matt Wagner is the regular writer, with rotating artists on each story arc. The first storyline is drawn by Guy Davis. Together, Wagner and Davis team up to create baroque new tales of a mysterious night avenger, combining the relentless plotting of a hardboiled detective novel and the subtle psychological ambiguities of classic film noir. In the premiere issue, Dodds follows the trail of the Tarantula, a mysterious kidnapper who wants the last dance on every young woman's card. Painted photo cover by Gavin Wilson. Suggested for Mature Readers. New Format. Cover price $1.95.

Written by Pornsak Pichetshote. Art by Jeff Stokely. Cover by Nimit Malavia. The Sandman Universe grows as two of its most beloved characters return to the spotlight! Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine have been detectives for decades--and dead best friends even longer. But their investigation into a Thai American girl's disappearance from her Los Angeles home puts them on a collision course with new and terrifying ghosts that could give even a dead boy nightmares--including a bloodthirsty krasue. Even scarier than the ghosts? Though neither wants to admit it, the boys might be growing apart. And perilously close by to the boys' adventure, Thessaly the witch finds herself held hostage by dangerous magics--both a threat to her life and an insult to her ego that simply will not go unanswered... Eisner Award-winning writer Pornsak Pichetshote (The Good Asian, Infidel) is joined by celebrated artist Jeff Stokely to take the Dead Boys to the scariest place of all: the heart of Hollywood! 32 pages, full color. Written by James Tynion IV. Art by Lisandro Estherren, Yanick Paquette. Cover by Reiko Murakami. Sometimes, nightmares walk the Earth. Every night when you sleep, the Lord of Dreams chooses the path youll follow…into a sylvan Elysium, or down the hallways of your darkest fears. And sometimes, if it is Dreams will, those nightmares escape those halls, and go out into the world. But it is not a choice he makes lightly. Today the Corinthian walks the Earth again. The most feared of all Dreams nightmares, his ravenous mouths have made him a legend among serial killers. Letting the Corinthian out among mortals is the most dangerous thing Dream could possibly do. But he has no choice—because there is another nightmare walking the Earth, one that must be hunted…and this monster is one that Dream, lord of all nightmares, did not make. Horror-comics superstar James Tynion IV has waited his whole career to pay tribute to the mythos of The Sandman, the work that made him the writer he is today—and that time has come! Designed to welcome new readers into one of the greatest worlds in DCs library, The Sandman Universe: Nightmare Country is a terrify-ing travelogue through a nation recognizable and obscene, which will show you things seen in no Sandman series ever before—with spectacular art by Lisandro Estherren (Redneck, Strange Skies Over East Berlin) and "nightmare" sequences by comics art all-stars, starting with the incredible Yanick Paquette! 32 pages, full color. Written by James Tynion IV. Art by Lisandro Estherren, Yanick Paquette. Cover by Yanick Paquette. Mature Readers Cover price $4.99.

Written by John Ney Rieber Art by Eric Nguyen Cover by Tim Bradstreet A Vertigo classic returns - with a vengeance! The fertile mind of writer John Ney Rieber (BOOKS OF MAGIC, Captain America) and the dynamic pen of artist Eric Nguyen (Strange Girl) have created a Sandman tale that both honors the classic character and will stand as a classic in its own right. A new age of terror demands a new Sandman to quell its nightmares. This disturbing new miniseries follows the final days of Wesley Dodds and his lifelong love Dian Belmont as they encounter a harrowing fate while traveling in Afghanistan circa 1997. Ten years later, with American troops on the ground in that country, wartime photojournalist Kieran Marshall is forced to take on the mantle of Wesley's former alter-ego, the terrifying crimefighter known as The Sandman. A dark and relevant tale that will appeal to new readers as well as fans of the classic Vertigo series, SLEEP OF REASON questions what it means to be human when confronted with evil. Marshall is a man in search of a career-making interview with master-terrorist Masad. When he confronts Masad face-to-face, he learns to his horror that this terrorist can teach him more about himself than he ever wanted to know. Becoming the new Sandman will be the only way Kieran can save his own life - but, possibly, at the cost of his humanity. Cover price $2.99.
