    Volume 2 - 1st printing. "1983-1986!"

Story and art by Lynn Johnston.

Since their debut in 1979, the world has watched the Pattersons grow up in real time-and to many readers, they feel like family. The cast expands, and roles that will play a big part down the road are just starting to bud. New adventures await Elizabeth as she enters kindergarten and has to spend some time in the hospital. Michael has to deal with a bully at school and takes a flight to Vancouver-all by himself! John has an unfortunate accident and is arrested for breaking and entering! And Elly finds a worthwhile cause in heading up a campaign to save the historic city hall that has been scheduled for demolition. Lynn Johnston's signature style becomes more defined and her storylines more complex as we carry on through the '80s. Volume Two collects the complete daily and Sunday comics from January 1983 through July 14, 1986, with all Sunday comics printed in color.

    Hardcover, 11-in. x 9-in., 544 pages, PC/PB&W.

    NOTE:

"Johnston's art is impeccable. Her simple and graceful line work conveys a great deal of emotion. It's not overly stylized or intricate, making it easy to plug yourself into the roles of the protagonists. Again with the timeless and universal nature of the strip." - Cinema Sentries

"Fans of the highest virtuosity in cartooning will relish this deluxe introduction to the Patterson's heartfelt and delightful story." - Library Journal

    Cover price $39.99.

  • Issue #1968
Forty Year with Mister Oswald HC (1968) Hardware 1968
    • Water damage.

Forty Years With Mr. Oswald, published in 1968, and written and illustrated by Russell "Russ" Johnson, chronicles wonderfully via a comic strip format one man's lifetime in the hardware business. Russ Johnson started drawing strips about daily life and trials of a hardware store owner around 1927 when he went to work in his fathers hardware store. Soon, the Hardware Retailer, a magazine geared towards hardware store owners and suppliers, found out about these strips and asked Johnson to begin submitting strips for each months issue. Johnson continued drawing Mister Oswald for the next 65 years. Johnson adds a nice anecdotal summary before each chapter. The attention to detail is impressive given how busy Johnson was as he was almost always working. The first few pages of the book look almost nothing like the rest because Johnsons style and sophistication as a comic artist and story teller grew at a very rapid rate. Johnsons characters are filled with life through masterful story telling, realistic settings, brilliant situations, and hilarious dialog. The writer who contributed to this review concludes, "Each page has me wishing I worked with these people and I cant stop wondering what it might have been like to know and work with the real Mr. Oswald." Black and white art, 286 pages, hardback.

Framed! TPB (2006 Andrews McMeel) A Baby Blues Treasury 1-1ST

1st printing. By Rick Kirkman and Jerry Scott. Kirkman and Scott don't just have their fingers on the pulse of the modern middle-class family; they have a grip on its wrist like a mother pulling a three-year-old past a grocery store cookie aisle. Tadpoles in the toilet, backseat border wars, emergency homemade diapers . . . welcome to another year in the life of the never-a-dull-moment McPherson family. While sister Zoe and brother Hammie's budding sibling rivalry reaches new heights (and volumes), baby Wren is making great strides of her own. With the advent of "the climbing phase" no coffee table, countertop, or bookshelf is too high. For years, the team of Rick Kirkman and Jerry Scott have given readers a too-funny-to-be-true, too-real-not-to-be insider's view of the American dream. They get the details and dilemmas so right, in fact, that it's a wonder they haven't been indicted for domestic surveillance. Softcover (Horizontal Format), 11-in. x 9-in., 240 pages, full color. NOTE: May or may NOT includes magnetic frame. Cover price $16.95.

From Krakow to Krypton: Jews and Comic Books TPB (2008) 1-1ST

1st printing. By Arie Kaplan. Jews created the first comic book, the first graphic novel, the first comic book convention, the first comic book specialty store, and they helped create the underground comics (or Comix) movement of the late 60s and early 70s. Many of the creators of the most famous comic books, such as Superman, Spiderman, X-Men, and Batman, as well as the founders of MAD magazine, were Jewish. From Krakow to Krypton: Jews and Comic Books tells their stories and demonstrates how they brought a uniquely Jewish perspective to their work and to the comics industry as a whole. Over-sized and in full color, From Krakow to Krypton is filled with sidebars, cartoon bubbles, comic book graphics, original design sketches, and photographs. It is a visually stunning and exhilarating history. 8-in x 11-in., 240 pages, PC/PBW. Cover price $25.00.
