Freshly minted as a free man and a bounty hunter, Django rides into Greenville alongside Dr. Schultz to begin the search for his wife Brommhilda and is immediately and harshly confronted with his own recent past as a slave. Cowan's storytelling here is fantastic, switching between wide crowd shots and impactful close ins on Django's bowed head and the piercing gaze of a slave watching a free black man ride into town on a horse.
