View scansOfficial Ballot for the first Alley Awards - 1962. When Jerry Bails created the Academy of Comic-Books Arts and Sciences (later renamed Academy of Comic-Book Fans and Collectors) as the first official organization of comic book enthusiasts and historians, his friend and legendary comics historian, Roy Thomas, decided there needed to be comic industry awards as well. The Alley became the first known comic book fan awards and were first presented in 1962. This is the first official ballot for those awards, created and written by Roy Thomas. Note that these first ballots had to be submitted to Thomas by May 31, 1962 and are only for DC nominations, as Fantastic Four #1 hadn't even hit the shelves yet. Lone Star Comics and mycomicshop.com founder and owner Buddy Saunders remembers filling out one of these ballots at the time, contributing to those first ever awards. 8.5" x 11", 4 mimeographed pages.
