Volume 1 - 1st printing. Collects Fantastic Four (1961-1996 1st Series) #52-53 and Jungle Action (1972-1976 Marvel) #6-21.
Series Edited by Ben Saunders. Written by Stan Lee and Don McGregor. Art by Jack Kirby, Joe Sinnott, Rich Buckler, Klaus Janson, Billy Graham, Craig Russell, Pablo Marcos, Dan Green, Virgilio Redondo, Bob McLeod, and Gil Kane. Introduction by Qiana J. Whitted. Foreword by Nnedi Okorafor.
Illustrated throughout, The Penguin Classics Marvel Collection presents specially curated comic book anthologies of the origin stories, seminal tales, and characters of the Marvel Universe to explore Marvels transformative and timeless influence on an entire genre of fantasy.
It is impossible to imagine American popular culture without Marvel Comics. For decades, Marvel has published groundbreaking visual narratives that sustain attention on multiple levels: as explorations of the relationship between power and responsibility; as metaphors for the experience of difference and otherness; as meditations on the pain of adolescence and the fluid nature of identity; as examinations of the meaning, and limits, of patriotism; as ironic juxtapositions of the cosmic and the quotidian; as resources for the understanding of political and social history; and as high watermarks in the artistic tradition of American cartooning. For the first time, these classic stories of some of the most iconic super heroes in the history of American comics are Penguin Classics. As Black Panther and the leader of the hidden African nation of Wakanda, King TChalla combines the legendary stealth of his namesake with the strength and intelligence to overcome his adversaries while earning the trust of his people.
This anthology includes the Panthers 1966 origin story by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and the critically-acclaimed Panthers Rage from the characters 1970s solo series, by Don McGregor, Rich Buckler and Billy Graham; both series were produced during a turbulent moment in Americas struggle for civil rights, and reflect that struggle in different ways.
The introduction offers fresh insight into the thematic development of the Black Panther, along with the social and cultural influences that shape the world he inhabits.

Throughout the 1960s, The Fantastic Four doubled as both the flagship title and the creative laboratory of the Marvel Universe. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced dozens of new characters and concepts in its pages, while expanding the emotional bandwidth and visual vocabulary of the super hero genre with every issue. This collection gathers some key tales from Lee and Kirbys lengthy tenure—from their first experiments in generic hybridity through to the remarkable fusion of the cosmic and the quotidian that is the The Galactus Trilogy.

These allegories of adolescence permanently transformed the conventions of the super hero genre by insisting that great power is never just a means to an end, but also a burdensome responsibility.
The introduction offers fresh insights into character development and the personalities of his creators. Also included are rarely reprinted non–super hero stories, early letter pages, and supplemental materials shedding light on Lee and Ditkos artistic process.

1st printing. Story and art by Miroslav Sekulic-Struja. In this resplendently painted graphic novel, a poet and a dancer form a beautiful connection in a bleak world. When Petar returns home to civilian life after his two-year conscription in the ex-Yugoslavian army, he finds himself adrift. Even amidst the most raucous, late-night parties, he feels detached from it all, like a ghost haunting the living. But a serendipitous encounter with Liza, a dancer with joie de vivre about her, brings a flood of vibrant color into his gray life. Their lyrical romance forms an oasis in a bleak world, until his inner demons start to reveal themselves. A heartfelt character study, this graphic novel paints the portrait of a complex protagonist often at odds with himself. At times, Petar writes soulful, life-affirming poetry, while at others he falls into spells of depression and self-destruction. Petar & Liza is a work of meticulous expressionism that reflects Miroslav Sekulic-Struja's vivid artistic vision. In dazzling gouache, Sekulic-Struja conjures an earthy, street-level view of humanity, bringing to life bohemian environs of dive bars, back rooms, and crowded cityscapes. He paints a world in darkness and turmoil, in which rays of sunshine occasionally peek through. MIROSLAV SEKULIC-STRUJA (b. 1976, Rijeka, Croatia) is a self-taught painter, illustrator, and novelist, whose rich and profound works seek to chronicle the underrepresented struggles of a generation lost to war. He is best known for his Pelote trilogy, which tells the Dickensian story of orphans in wartime. In 2010, his graphic novel The Man Who Bought a Smile received the Young Talent Award from the AngoulĂŞme International Comics Festival. Hardcover, 9-in. x 12-in., 176 pages, full color. 1st printing. Story and art by Attilio Micheluzzi. Set during World War I and originally published in serial format from 1977–1982, Petra Chérie follows the adventures of Petra De Karlowitz, Chérie to creator Attilio Micheluzzi, who addresses her throughout the book. Born to a Polish businessman and the most beautiful woman in Paris, raised in Canton, China, and now based in neutral Holland, she is a spy who answers only to herself. Evoking but cleverly eschewing stereotypes of the femme fatale, Petra is equally at home in the cockpit of an airplane and behind the wheel of a motorcar. More than that, she is an endlessly fascinating enigma and one of the most iconic characters in Italian comics. In short, thrilling tales across sky, sea, and land, zipping from Northern Europe to Mitteleuropa, from the Balkans to the Bosphorus to the nascent Soviet Union, Micheluzzi grapples with an era when Europes borders were in flux and battle lines were often blurred. Petra steps in where national allegiances come into conflict with our common humanity. Attilio Micheluzzi, an architect by training who grew up between Istria, Libya, and Naples, brings his international experiences and his keen sense of perspective to his work. In the tradition of the Corto Maltese adventures and stylish look of Guido Crepaxs Valentina, Petra Chérie is the touchstone book in Fantagraphics comprehensive Micheluzzi library, prepared in collaboration with the authors daughter Agnese Micheluzzi. Story and art by Lisa Brown.
A young woman is haunted by the ghost of her conjoined twin, in this sweetly spooky graphic novel set in a turn-of-the-century sideshow.
Isabel spent her life following Jane's lead. Literally-of the two conjoined twins, Jane was always the stronger one, both physically and emotionally. But when Jane dies on the operating table during a risky attempt to separate the twins, Isabel is left alone. Or is she? Soon, Jane returns, attached to Isabel from shoulder to hip just like she used to be. Except Isabel is the only person who can see Jane-a ghost, a phantom limb, a phantom twin.
Against a vivid backdrop of the hardscrabble life of circus sideshow freaks at the turn of the century, Isabel's story unfolds as an unforgettable coming-of-age tale from picture book star Lisa Brown.

Story and art by Laurent Queyssi and Mauro Marchesi.
One of the greatest writers in SF history, Philip K. Dick is mostly remembered for movies based on his works such as Blade Runner, Minority Report, and Total Recall. His dark fascinating work centered on alternate universes and shifting realities in worlds often governed by monopolistic corporations and authoritarian governments. His own life story seems a tussle with reality, going through five wives and becoming increasingly disjointed with fits of paranoia and hallucinations fueled by abuse of drugs meant to stabilize him. His dramatic story is presented unvarnished in this comics biography.

1st printing. Story and art by Bill Griffith. Legendary cartoonist Bill Griffith brings a personal touch to this illustrated history of his great-grandfather, William Henry Jackson—a pioneering photographer of the American West whose work led to Yellowstone becoming the first National Park and was a major influence on Ansel Adams. In his new graphic biography, legendary cartoonist Bill Griffith, creator of Zippy the Pinhead, tells the story of his namesake and great-grandfather, William Henry Jackson, who was one of the first photographers of the American West. Jacksons photography spurred Americans to move westward, inspiring photographers such as Ansel Adams, and playing a role in the creation of our national parks, including Yellowstone. Using his unique approach to graphic novel biography, which Kirkus hails as setting a standard for the medium, Griffith explores every aspect of his great-grandfathers life and legacy, which he pulls from family letters, diaries, and anecdotes, primary sources, and the archives of the New York Public Library and the Library of Congress, as well as from the more than 25 books written about Jackson and his work. Like all of Griffiths biographies, Photographic Memory is a thoroughly researched, sharply observant character study written from a place of love, which explores photography in an illustrated medium. Not an easy trick to pull off—unless you are Bill Griffith. Hardcover, 6-in. x 9-in., 288 pages, B&W. Cover price $35.00.
