Science fiction and fantasy reign over popular culture now.
Lost Transmissions is a rich trove of forgotten and unknown, imagined-but-never-finished, and under-appreciated-but-influential works from those imaginative genres, as well as little-known information about well-known properties. Divided into sections on Film & TV, Literature, Art, Music, Fashion, Architecture, and Pop Culture, the book examines Jules Verne's lost novel; AfroFuturism and Space Disco; E.T.'s scary beginnings; William Gibson's never-filmed Aliens sequel; Weezer's never-made space opera; and the 8,000-page metaphysical diary of Philip K. Dick. br>

1st printing. Written by Andy Mangels. Art by Lou Scheimer. Hailed as one of the fathers of Saturday morning television, Lou Scheimer was the co-founder of Filmation Studios, which for over 25 years provided animated excitement for TV and film. Always at the forefront, Scheimers company created the first DC cartoons with Superman, Batman, and Aquaman, ruled the song charts with The Archies, kept Trekkie hope alive with the Emmy-winning Star Trek: The Animated Series, taught morals with Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, and swung into high adventure with Tarzan, The Lone Ranger, and Zorro. Forays into live-action included Shazam! and The Secrets of Isis, plus ground-breaking special effects work on Jason of Star Command and others. And in the 1980s, Filmation single-handedly caused the syndication explosion with He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and its successors. Scheimer tells the entire story to best-selling author Andy Mangels, including memories of the comics of the Golden Age, schooling with Andy Warhol, and what it meant to lead the last all-American animation company through nearly thirty years of innovation and fun! Profusely illustrated with photos, model sheets, storyboards, presentation art, looks at rare and unproduced series, and more. Softcover, 8 1/2-in. x 11-in., 288 pages, full color. Cover price $29.95.

1st Edition - possibly printed with a dustjacket, but the title text is inlaid on the spine and it likely never had a dustjacket. "Love and Death: A Study in Censorship" (1949) by Gershon Legman. Published five years prior to Seduction of the Innocent, Love and Death harshly criticized the salacious comics of the era, particularly comics that glorified crime and violence, which the author deemed harmful to children. It includes a 28-page chapter, "Not for Children," that begins, "The American generation born since 1930 cannot read" because of the prevalence of "the radio, the talking movie, the picture-magazine and comic book....For them, the printed word is on the way out." And all this before television entered the scene! How strange to hear such familiar arguments being made so many years ago. NOTE: According to the Lost Soti website, the 1949 hardcover first edition was printed in very limited quantities to be given or sold to admirers (estimated around 50 copies). Hardcover, 95 pages, 6.25-in x 9.25-in.

For the better part of three decades romance comics were an American institution. Nearly 6,000 romance comics were published between 1947 and 1977, and there was a time when one of every five comics sold in the U.S. was a romance comic.
This first book devoted entirely to the rarely studied world of romance comics features information on several types of romance comics and their creators, plus the history, numbers, and publishing frequency of dozens of romance titles.

The author and the illustrator behind the best-selling Necronomnomnom have summoned another glorious grimoire-this time featuring cursed cocktails.
These boozy and punny recipes pay homage to Lovecraftian horror themes and monsters with titles such as the "King in Jell-O," "Pink FlaMi-Go," and "Sunken Island Iced Tea." The book provides "Virgin Sacrifices" for the coachman designated to drive everyone back from the séance, or for anyone not wanting to imbibe the devil's water. There are 75 delicious and malicious recipes, each gorgeously illustrated, mercilessly tested, and hilariously written.
Recipes appear in the form of cryptic rhymes and arcane rituals but are always easy (and fun) to follow.

1st printing. By Stephen Jones. In April 1936, Lovecraft's novella The Shadow Over Innsmouth was first published. Written five years earlier, but oddly rejected by every magazine it was ever submitted to, it accurately described a series of events that actually happened in February 1928, when federal government agents raided the ancient Massachusetts seaport of Innsmouth and attempted to eradicate a deviant race of ichthyoid creatures which had been interbreeding with the human population for decades, if not centuries. To combat these cosmic horrors, the Human Protection League (H.P.L.) was established to investigate and combat these otherworldly invaders. Down through the decades since, the only defense that has stood between humanity and these creatures of chaos are the agents of the H.P.L.-or, as they are sometimes known to those few who are aware of their existence: The Lovecraft Squad. Hardcover, 6-in. x 9-in., 336 pages, Text Only. Cover price $25.95.

Written by Roger Hill. Art and cover by Mac Raboy. Edited by Jon B. Cooke.
Beginning with his WPA etchings during the 1930s, Mac Raboy struggled to survive the Great Depression and eventually found his way into the comic book sweatshops of America. In that world of four-color panels, he perfected his art style on such creations as Dr. Voodoo, Zoro, The Mystery Man, Bulletman, Spy Smasher, Green Lama and his crowning achievement, Captain Marvel Jr. Raboy went on to illustrate the Flash Gordon Sunday newspaper strip, and left behind a legacy of meticulous perfection.
Through extensive research and interviews with son David Raboy, and assistants who worked with the artist during the Golden Age of Comics, author Roger Hill brings Mac Raboy, the man and the artist, into focus for historians to savor and enjoy.
This full-color hardcover includes never-before-seen photos, a wealth of rare and unpublished artwork, and the first definitive biography of a true Master of the Comics!
