In an early (and meta) Pogo story by Kelly, Pogo reads a letter from Wallet Kelly asking readers to write in to the comic book. In another adorable Kelly story, Nubble the kitten meets Nibble the derby-wearing mouse, and they accidentally antagonize Fuss Feathers the parrot. Jigger and Mooch go to the country, in a story by John Stanley of Little Lulu fame.
