Teacher Martha realizes her young student Link isn't getting the best care at home, but his handsome, single father rejects her input. Pam protests hated land developer John when he wants to pave over Jewel Pond, but she has to admit he's handsome. Ben and Ruth fall in love while crossing a city bridge together, and it's on that same bridge that he chooses to break up with her.
