Charlton's long-running series focused on the miliary exploits of the US Marines throughout the 20th century. Bayliss snaps during the Battle of Iwo Jima, and afterwards is considered a hero, but must live with the trauma of his battle-rage, in an unusual tale. Marines change the course of the war after they arrive in WWI France in 1918, in one of several stories this issue by artist and combat veteran Sam Glanzman. Red Cross nurse Maggie becomes a Marine unit's mascot during WWII, but they lose morale when she is captured by the enemy.
