Cover by Walt Kelly. Stories and art by Walt Kelly, Hubbell R. McBride, and Gaylord Du Bois (credited as Howard R. Garis). Dell's classic funny-animal series included early work by former Disney animator Walt Kelly, creator of beloved comic strip Pogo. In an early Pogoverse story by Kelly, a passel of mice choose Albert the Alligator's mouth for a hidey-hole, and he can't figure out where the voices are coming from. In another Kelly story, Cilly Goose and her brother Minefield enter the State Fair boxing and baking contests, but when their entry forms get switched, Cilly is boxing and Minefield is baking. Uncle Wiggily and Uncle Butter try to take a vacation. This issue also features the first-ever cover appearance of future comics icon Pogo Possum, visible in the background, playing first base. Matilda and the Fox; Uncle Wiggly; Cilly Goose; Albert and Pogo; Elephunnies. 32 Pages, Full Color. Cover price $0.10.
