Gilbert Toys Present: Science Leads the Way (1959) was a promotional comic book published by the A. C. Gilbert Co. This comic tells a story to promote Gilbert Toys Science Kits. Engineers, chemists, doctors, biologists, botanists, physicists, and astronomers are some of the many professionals working on projects of great importance to our future. Some of these scientists discovered a passion for their careers years ago through a Gilbert Science Set. The art is either by John Rosenberger or someone with a very similar style. 32 pages, full color, 5-in. x 7-in.

Tamaki paints a portrait of a city populated by "cautious optimists" and "resigned cynics" and filled with accidental street theatre. The featured comic is The Tapemines, an 80-page wordless scroll about feral children in forests of cassette tape. Other comics celebrate her Brooklyn neighborhood. Her inspirations include German expressionists George Grosz and Otto Dix, as well as Japanese and Inuit printmaking.
