The Lone Ranger, His Mask, & How He Met Tonto (1954) was a promotional comic book distributed by Cheerios cereals. This is it, the origin of the Lone Ranger. It is a story of loss, justice, and redemption. Read how the Lone Ranger was saved by his future friend and partner Tonto. Why does he wear a mask and why does he use silver bullets? These questions and more are answered in this entertaining mini comic. 16 pages, full color, newsprint, 6.75-in. x 2.75-in.

Art by Henry Vallely. The first-ever appearance of the Lone Ranger in comic books, originally sold as a mail-in offer for an ice cream company (which is why the masked hero carries an ice-cream cone). Adapted not from the comic strip, but from the Big Little Book Lone Ranger and His Horse Silver, also illustrated by Henry Vallely. The BLB illustrations form a sort of comic-strip version of the story. The masked hero of the West battles outlaws with help from his sidekick Tonto and faithful horse Silver, never even waiting for anyone to thank him.
