Volume 21 - 1st printing. "Prisoner of the Khan!"

Story and art By Hal Foster.

The cliffhanger from Volume 20 — Prince Valiant, Sir Gawain, Pierre, and the rescued Sir Basil facing the wrath of a Ben Al Rasch's vengeful mob on the road to Bethlehem — whips Volume 21 into fast and furious action right from the start. Then, don't miss what transpires when a jealous suitor of Queen Aleta hires two hit-men (!) — Bodex the Man-Slayer and a blood-hungry pirate — to off the Prince! Soon after, Valiant thirsts for Thule, home and family, and launches on an epic trek through Eastern Europe to his father, King Aguar, at Vikingsholm. Full of battles, intrigue, new friends, and new enemies full of greed and avarice, Prince Valiant Volume 21 is a trip to remember.

    Volume 42 - 1st printing. "Arn's Trip to Thule!"

Story and art By Hal Foster.

Fantagraphics' deluxe, full-color library editions of Prince Valiant were initially intended to end with 2000's Volume 40, the final volume in which Foster was the chief architect of the strip's visual look. Due to overwhelming public demand, however, we are continuing the series, reprinting strips written and roughed-out by Foster and finished by Foster's prodigious assistant, John Cullen Murphy. Murphy, who had been quietly assisting Foster for several years, actively took over the bulk of the drawing chores in 1971 and immediately developed a fan following himself (although, for the most part, your average newspaper reader couldn't discern a difference between Foster and Cullen Murphy's styles). Each volume of Prince Valiant features close to a year's worth of full-page Sunday strips. Volume 42 reprints the adventurous strips from 1972-73.

    Softcover, 9-in. x 13-in., 48 pages, full color.

    Cover price $16.95.
