    Originals HC (2004 DC/Vertigo) 1-1ST

    1st printing.

Story and art by Dave Gibbons.

When they walk, they look cool. When they ride, they drive fast. And when they hate, they fight - brutally. One of comics' most esteemed names, Dave Gibbons (co-creator and artist of WATCHMEN and Give Me Liberty) arrives at VERTIGO to deliver an original hardcover graphic novel he's been waiting his entire life to write and draw.

Lel and Bok - two best friends - want nothing more than to join the Originals, the top gang on the streets. Through them, they'll meet the high-speed world of hover scooters, all-night clubs, and, for Lel, the girl of his dreams in particular. But with the fast life comes tough foes, and tribal loyalty will teach them the unforgettable meaning of unforgivable loss.

Neither a science-fiction story nor set in a mundane reality, THE ORIGINALS takes place in a world both familiar and strange, where the young are angry, loyal and stylish. And the only thing more important than who your friends are is who your friends hate.

  • Issue #6-REP
Osprey Elite Series SC (1984-2008 OSPREY) 6-REP

Volume 6 - 2nd and later printings. "French Foreign Legion Paratroops!" Written by Martin Windrow. Art by Kevin Lyles. The decision, in Spring 1948, to form two battalions of Foreign Legion paratroopers was prompted by the requirement for enlarged airborne forces in Indochina, and the healthy recruitment then employed by the Legion. There were some initial doubts. The Legion were known to be magnificent heavy infantry, but were felt by some to lack the flexibility and agility demanded by independent airborne operations. In the Legion itself there were some misgivings over the possible clash between the self-consciously exclusive 'para mentality', and the Legion's own very marked Ă©sprit de corps. Over time, however, all these doubts evaporated with experience. Softcover,64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $17.95.

  • Issue #85-1ST
Osprey Elite Series SC (1984-2008 OSPREY) 85-1ST

Volume 85 - 1st printing. "US Commanders of World War II Part 1!" Written by James Arnold Robert Hargis. Art by Darko Pavlovic. To be a successful commander requires experience, character, tenacity and boldness: the ability to establish a good rapport with both your staff and your men is also vital. The real test comes in combat though, where a large proportion of luck is involved - the luck to be in the right place at the right time - and lasting reputations can be formed in a very brief and frenetic period. The key US commanders of World War II were subject to (and often gratuitously fostered) the projection of their 'characters', exploiting the growing power of the media. This title examines the careers, personalities and fortunes of the key US Army and Air Force commanders of World War II. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

  • Issue #131-1ST
Osprey Elite Series SC (1984-2008 OSPREY) 131-1ST

Volume 131 - 1st printing. "The Condor Legion!" Written by Carlos Caballero Jurado. Art by Ramiro Bujeiro. The Condor Legion was the expeditionary force of soldiers and airmen sent by Hitler to aid Franco's Nationalists in the Spanish Civil War. The Germans used the war as an opportunity to develop equipment and tactics, and their force included not only instructors, but also combat units of artillery, tanks and aircraft. These units tested guns, tanks and planes and perfected techniques which were used in the 1940 Blitzkrieg. Many of officers prominent in the early campaigns of World War II won their first successes in Spain. This book details the Legion and its unique uniform and insignia. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

  • Issue #131-REP
    Osprey Men-at-Arms Series SC (1973-2011 OSPREY) 131-REP

Volume 131 - 2nd and later printings. "Germany's Eastern Front Allies 1941–45!" Written by Peter Abbott. Art by Mike Chappell. The 1930s were a time of growing tension for the smaller states of Eastern Europe. Since the end of the First World War they had enjoyed an independence which most of them had not known for centuries, but this was now threatened by the growing power of Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia. Instead of combining for self defence, they were bitterly divided. The Munich crisis showed how little reliance could be placed on the Western democracies, whose power to intervene militarily in Eastern Europe was negligible. In effect this left the smaller East European states with little alternative but to become clients of either Germany or Russia. Softcover, PC/PB&W.

  • Issue #65-1ST
Osprey Warrior Series SC (1993-2011 OSPREY) 65-1ST

Volume 65- 1st printing. "US Army Ranger 1983-2002!" Written by Mir Bahmanyar. Art by Michael Welply. This study of the US Army Ranger takes the reader through the distinct stages of training and acceptance, including the Ranger Indoctrination Program and Ranger Battalion training, and details the developments in Ranger weaponry, equipment and clothing since the early 1980s. Using first hand accounts, it shows what it was like to fight in Panama in 1989, in raid missions in Iraq in 1991 and Somalia in 1993, and brings the unit up to date with the 3rd Battalion's deployment to Afghanistan in Operation Enduring Freedom. It also covers the culture of the Rangers, from their special language and terminology, to the rites of passage that lie behind the formal training program. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.
