Originally intended as the first issue of a new title before being pushed to Showcase #107 (which would be cancelled with #104), "The Deserter" was eventually only published in Cancelled Comics Cavalcade- a comic of which only 35 copies were printed! The miniscule print run was distributed to the creators of the stories, a copyright official, and one copy to Bob Overstreet (to prove it actually happened!) This fantastic Civil War battle page sees the titular Deserter first realizing that maybe war ain't so grand...before being immediately thrust into the thick of it.
