In this universe, Ted Kord talked Max Lord out of killing him only to quickly dispatch the deranged head of Checkmate and take control of the organization. Using Brother Eye and Checkmate's resources, Kord began doing his best to save the world, unravelling the tangle of events that would eventually lead to the Infinite Crisis. Here we see the results of Ted pulling on the final cord. After confronting Alexander Luthor and Superboy Prime, Ted was able to convince Superboy that he was more capable of pushing back 'the darkness' of the main universe than Alexander was and after Alexander quickly turned on Superman and Lois, Superboy wastes no time in unleashing his heat vision on the former hero of Earth-3.
