A grim, brutal scene from colonial New York as the consequences of Papa Midnite's schemes hits home. With (supposed) aid from the trickster god Anansi, Papa Midnite has incited a slave rebellion- one intentionally meant to fail in order to strengthen the power of white Englishmen as Midnite's immortality comes from a curse that remains in place as long as white men rule the new world. With the colonial powers on the warpath, an innocent slave is caught in the streets and beaten as Fortune, one of them men aiding Midnite, begins to rethink his allegiances. Pencil and ink on DC Comics art board. 11 1/2" x 17".
