    • Without a doubt one of the most recognizable creative voices in 20th century pop culture, Drew Struzan created the definitive imagery for countless works through his movie posters, albums covers, and illustrations.

      Struzan's talent for capturing an iconic likeness of his subjects is front and center on this preliminary art for Neil Simon's brilliant ensemble film, California Suite which stars Alan Alda, Michael Caine, Bill Cosby, Jane Fonda, Walter Matthau, Maggie Smith, Richard Pryor, and Elaine May. From Caine's mannered detachment to Richard Pryor's shock and outrage to Smith's below-the-surface existential crisis (which netted her a Best Supporting Actress Oscar), Struzan perfectly captures not just the actors but their characters in this phenomenal piece.

      The final poster bears little resemblance to this prelim piece which, in our humble opinion, is far superior. The layout is outstanding with gorgeous lettering for the title in the head of the key and images of the cast that are far more evocative of their characters than those on the final poster.
