Known primarily for his iconic paintings for Famous Monsters of Filmland, Basil Gogos was a prolific artist contributing attention-grabbing covers not just to Warren's array of publications to but various men's adventure magazines throughout the 60's and 70's, pulling all manner of the fantastic into lush reality on the page. Most men's adventure mags focused on either combat or sex, but the best combine the two like this entry of True Adventure featuring a stunningly beautiful but undeniably dangerous cover subject. Gogos' cover image for the ($200 prize winning) story "Tiger Lady of the China Sea" captures the femme fatale described by the author perfectly, right down to her brilliant green eyes as she coldly stares at her latest victim. Gogos is well known for his use of color and while it's a bit more subtle here than on his monster work, some touches stand out like the hint of green in the light on the man's right shoulder reflecting the tropical plant life and on the incredible amount of texture and depth he gives the skin of the Tiger Lady.
