Stories and art by Gil Kane, George Olesen, Lorence Bjorklund and Al Carreno. St. John takes over publishing from Ziff-Davis. Tough marshal Bob Hardie is better known to friend and foe alike as The Hawk. The Desert Eagle battles outlaws who are oppressing homesteaders, in a story with art in a "clear line" style, by future Marvel legend Gil Kane. The Hawk tries to bring law to lawless Greasewood, in a story that opens with a violent, action-packed pre-Code splash panel. Hardie finds a dying man in the desert and swears to protect his young son, the only other person who knew where he hid his gold. Plus fun facts about cacti and Pueblo cliff dwellings. Classic painted cover by an unknown artist. Killers Town; Desert Eagle: Gunmen Strike at Dawn!; Death in the Desert; Cactus Facts; Horse Thief; The Cliff-Dwellers; Desert Manhunt! Issues #5 and #6 of this series appeared as Approved Comics (1954) #1 and #7, respectively; there was no issue #7. 32 pages, Full Color. Cover price $0.10.
