Issue has advertisements for other comic fandom publications. Also has an advertisement of comics "for sale or trade" and includes Aquaman #1 for 75 cents, Flash Annual #1 for 75 cents, Showcase Green Lantern for 60 cents, Journey Into Mystery #86 (Thor) for 50 cents.     Star-Studded Comics 4 - June 1964 published by the Texas Trio. Issue number 4 appeared in two different formats; please see individual items notes to see which printing is listed. First printings have staples on the sides of the pages. On second printings, the cover is a wraparound format with the staples in the center of the pages. Also in first printings, in Chapter 1 - "A Gathering of Heroes!" pages 2 of 3 were mistakenly switched. Second printings of this issue correct that mistake. Format: Photo offset printing Staple bounded on sides of pages Original price was 50 cents. First price increase for comic. The first three issues cost 35 cents. Color cover by Don Fowler (AKA Buddy Saunders) features the Liberty Legion - Doctor Weird, Astralman, Changling, Defender, Mercury, and Powerman "Let's Talk It Over!" column notes that circulation of this issue was 300 copies and has letters from Dave Bibby, Al Russell, Robert E. Kennedy, Hugh Surratt, Mark Clemens, and Jerry Phillips. Issue has full page advertisements of other fan publications and magazines. Issue #4 of Star-Studded Comics is the only issue to feature a book-length team-up saga of "The Liberty Legion" -- Doctor Weird, Astral Man, Changling, Defender, Mercury, and Powerman. The story by Larry Herndon and Buddy Saunders is divided into five chapters: Chapter 1 - "A Gathering of Heroes!" Art by Ron Foss (Pages 2 of 3 of Chapter 1 were accidently switched. Second printings of this issue corrects that mistake.) Chapter 2 - "Doom of the Deadly Deluge!" Art by Don Fowler Chapter 3 - "Menace of the Solar Lance!" Art by Richard "Grass" Green. Original price was 50 cents Color cover by Howard Keltner features large picture of Dr. Weird and smaller shots of the Defender, the Fog, the Human Cat, and Powerman. First issue with color back cover features full page picture of the Defender versus Crystal Stone. "Let's Talk It Over!" column notes that it has been two years since the Texas Trio had their first meeting and decided to publish a comic book. Also states that the circulation of this issue was 1,000 copies and has letters from Jerry Phillips, Roger Elwood, Dave Bibby, Russ Manning, and Roy Thomas. Issue also has ads for other fan published magazines.     Star-Studded Comics 8 - March 1966 Format: Photo offset printing Wrap-around binding with staples in center. Original price was 50 cents Color cover by Richard "Grass" Green features Xal-Kor the Human Cat. Back cover features the Changling, Powerman, the Defender, the White Dragon, and Doctor Weird. "Let's Talk It Over!" column notes that a reprint of issue number four is available and that it is in the wrap-around format not the stapling on the side which was used in the first printing of issue number four. Asks readers if there would be any interest in a Star-Studded Comics Annual. Although there was favorable response, the Texas Trio never did a Star-Studded Comics Annual. Notes that the print run of this issue was 500 copies. Issue also has an advertisement for "The Guidebook to Comic Fandom" which is "designed primarily for the fan who wishes to know more about Fandom; its history, current status and activity, and its future." Full page ad for "The Broken Sword" a comic strip serial by Poul Anderson and George Barr which will begin in Trumpet number four, a fanzine published by Tom Reamy. First issue in which the letters are moved from "Let's Talk It Over!" In this issue, they are featured in "From Our Readers" and contain letters Al Kuhfeld, Donald D. Ensign, Landon Chesney, George R.R. Martin, Leonard Tirado, and Jerry Page. Stories:Xal-Kor the Human Cat in "Operation Big Move!" "From Our Readers" features letters from Dennis Richard, John Melvin, Landon Chesney, John Wright, George R.R. Martin, Dave Bibby, and William C. Lee. Full page ad for audio tapes of a Captain Marvel serial, the Superman Broadway play, and the Mad Magazine Broadway play. Stories:Dr. Weird in "The Curse of Skullwing!" Comic story with script by Larry Herndon and art by Alan Weiss Powerman versus "The Transmuter" Comic story with script by Dave Bibby and art by Bill Dubay Vale Proditor! Text story by Howard Waldrop and illustrations by Buddy Saunders. Today Waldrop is a noted science fiction writer. This was possibly his first published story.
