    Cosmopolitan is a long-running fashion and entertainment magazine focused on women. Cover by Frederick Lincoln Stoddard. This issue includes: First publication of an essay by H. G. Wells, "The Things that Live on Mars", with four full-page illustrations by William Robinson Leigh, about the habitability and possibility of life on Mars, ideas that Wells had previously explored a decade earlier in his science fiction novel "The War of the Worlds". Also, "Story of the Mars Expedition", an essay by American astronomer David Peck Todd describing the 1907 Lowell expedition to Chile, an attempt to capture images of the purported Martian canals; and "Small Contributions" a regular column to the magazine by Ambrose Bierce. 7" x 10", 130 pages, B&W.
