Commissar defeats them all except the Scarlet Witch who discovers and destroys the Commissar's control panel, ending him. First appearance of the Swordsman and the origin of Hawkeye in "The Coming of... the Swordsman!", script by Stan Lee, pencils by Don Heck, inks by Dick Ayers; The Swordsman infiltrates the Avenger's base and Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver attack him; He then admits he was testing them and wants to apply for membership; Captain America intervenes with information saying he is a wanted man and the Swordsman escapes; Hawkeye explains that the Swordsman used to be his tutor when he was in the circus; Meanwhile, in Nick Fury's office in Washington D.C HYDRA agents find a letter from Captain America; They later discard it as trash; It explained how Captain America wanted to work for S.H.I.E.L.D.; A mobster finds it and gives it to the Swordsman; A trap is laid for Captain America; He then leaves to meet with "Nick Fury"; Hawkeye finds out about the plan and gathers the other Avengers to help him; Captain America battles the Swordsman and gets captured before the others can arrive to help. "Frenzy in a Far-Off Land," script by Stan Lee, pencils by Don Heck, inks by Frank Giacoia; Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch take a leave of absence from the Avengers due to their dwindling powers; Goliath also sets off to South America to try and find a cure, hearing his old college professor Dr. Anton is there; Black Widow is ordered to destroy the Avengers again with the help of the Swordsman and Power Man; The Avengers find the Black Widow and co. but Hawkeye wants to go alone, as it is personal to him; Meanwhile, Goliath lands in South America and finds Dr. Anton has been captured by the Keeper of the Flame; He tries to save him, but is overwhelmed then brought to safety by Prince Rey, who leads a rebel force against the Keeper; Hawkeye defeats the Swordsman but is trapped by Power Man; The Black Widow saves him, finding herself unable to harm Hawkeye as she loves him; Captain America and the Wasp leave to help Goliath.
