Issue #1. In the early 1960s, there was a minor movement of college satirists who moved off campus to avoid the college censorship boards. Aardvark was a regional satire magazine that was sold on newsstands in the upper Midwest. 8 1/2-in. x 11-in., 32 pages, black and white. Cover price $0.35.

Alford in Action in Arkansas (1960) is full color, 16 page, 7-in. x 5-in. all newsprint comic book promoting Dale Alford's run for governor of Arkansas in 1960. Thomas Dale Alford was born on January 28, 1916 in New Hope, Arkansas. Alford was an ophthalmologist by trade and served in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1940 to 1946 during World War II. Returning to Arkansas he joined the teaching faculty at the University of Arkansas Medical School at Little Rock and remained there from 1948-1958. Alford was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1958. Alford did not run for re-election in 1960, and instead chose to run against Governor Orval Faubus. Faubus successfully beat back a challenge by Alford in 1960 and again in 1966. Thomas Dale Alford died on 25 January 2000 of congestive heart failure.

Allied Over the Road: Chapter 13 Loading and Weights (circa 1960) is a promotional comic from Allied Van Lines. This comic was only available to employees and was designed with 3-ring binder holes for placement in a binder and was intended as an educational tool to teach movers how to pack and handle cargo. There are pointers on proper loading, how to protect property from damage, as well as a page on how to calculate weights as narrated by Al Vann. 8 pages, full color, white paper stock.

Always Be Careful (1960 copyright) was given away by the P.T.A. to promote safety. Published by School Series, Phoenix, Arizona. 12 pages, 5-in. x 6-in., black,white,blue on newsprint.
