Fort Ticonderoga an Illustrated History of the Fort (1950) is a promotional comic distributed at the Fort Ticonderoga site in upstate New York. Written and illustrated by Golden Age Superman artist Frederick Ray (he was the artist for the classic patriotic shield cover for Superman #14). The art is excellent, displaying Ray's skilled use of the black and white medium, and is historically accurate. The artwork appears to have been a patriotic labor of love on Ray's part. Fort Ticonderoga is the most faithfully restored revolutionary fortress in America and houses one of the nation's finest historical museums. 20 pages, color cover with black and white interior, heavy white paper stock, 6-in. x 9-in., 25c cover price. Cover price $0.25.

Cover by Allen Anderson. Stories and art by Dan De Carlo, Rudy Lapick, Henry Sharp, Mike Sekowsky, and Irv Novick. Sometimes listed as GI Joe #1; this is actually the first issue. Neither a tie-in with the later toy line/cartoon nor a grim war comic, this first-gen GI Joe focused on lighthearted tales of military life. The Yardbirds, featuring Pvts. Windy and Whitey, was straight-up comedy of the Beetle Bailey/Sad Sack variety. Joe and Sgt. Muvaney compete for the affections of Seoul City Lou. Pvts. Windy and Whitey are assigned guard duty, in a story by future Archie legend Dan De Carlo. Joe is almost lured into an enemy trap by a life-sized standee photo of his favorite Hollywood starlet, Lana Burner. Plus a guide to military arm and hand signals. New War Weapons: The "Ram" Tankbuster; G. I. Joe; The Two Yardbirds: Guard Duty; The Fighting General; How the Infantry Fights: Arm and Hand Signals; Seoul City Lou; Make Way for the Press!; Beauty on the Battlefront; How the Infantry Fights: Scouting. 48 pages, Full Color.
