Volume 50 - 1st printing. "The Texas War of Independence 1835-36!" By Alan C Huffines. The Texas Revolution is remembered chiefly for the 13-day siege of the Alamo and its immortal heroes. This book describes the war and the preceding years that were marked by resentments and minor confrontations as the ambitions of Mexico's leaders clashed with the territorial determination of Texan settlers. When the war broke in October 1835, the invading Mexicans, under the leadership of the flamboyant President-General Santa Ana, fully expected to crush a ragged army of frontiersmen. Led by Sam Houston, the Texans rallied in defense of the new Lone Star state, defeated the Mexicans in a mere 18 minutes at the battle of San Jacinto and won their independence. Softcover, 96 pages, PC/PB&W Cover price $17.95.

Volume 16 - 1st printing. "Modelling the F/A-18 Hornet!" By Geoff Coughlin. The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet is probably the world's most advanced air superiority fighter/attack aircraft and is often seen thrilling air-show crowds around the world. It is currently in service with the US Navy, the US Marine Corps, the Spanish, Australian, Swiss and Canadian air forces. This title provides a detailed guide to modelling the Hornet in 1/48th and 1/32nd scales, covering a variety of colour schemes. The step-by-step modelling projects include a 'Gunslingers' F/A-18C USN Hornet from Operation DESERT FOX, an F/A-18D Hornet from the Royal Malaysian Air Force, a Navy 'Black Aces' F/A-18F Super Hornet and an F/A-18A 'Top Gun'-school Hornet. Softcover, 7-in. x 10-in., 80 pages, full color. Cover price $19.95.

Volume 96- 1st printing. "Carolingian Cavalryman AD 768-987 !" Written by David Nicolle. Art by Wayne Reynolds. The army of Charlemagne and his successors enabled the western Franks to recreate what contemporaries regarded as a 'reborn' western Roman empire. Frankish society was well prepared for war, with outstanding communications drawing together the disparate regions of a large empire. The role of mounted troops, the essential striking force of the Frankish army, is explored here. Alongside it was the impact that new technology, such as stirrups, had on warfare in this period. Illuminating a much-neglected area of history, this book shows how the role of cavalry grew in prestige, as the Carolingian armoured horseman gave way to the knight of the early 10th century. Softcover, 64 pages, PC/PB&W. Cover price $18.95.

Tags: Pearls Before Swine Collection (part 3), Comic Strip ReprintsPublished Mar 2005 by Andrews McMeel.$5.99
$5.99
1st printing.
By Stephan Pastis.
Pearls Before Swine was voted the Best Comic Strip of 2003 by the National Cartoonists Society, and in Nighthogs, the strip's third collection, Stephan Pastis proves that his strip is one of the sharpest, funniest comics in newspapers. You never know who you'll bump into at a diner at night. It could be a rat with an anger-management problem. Or an overly sentimental pig. Or a zebra with a story or two to tell about a crocodile. Or even a goat who just wants to be left alone.
Welcome to Nighthogs, where the door is always open, the light is always on, and the coffee is as scorching as the humor.
In this third collection of the immensely popular Pearls Before Swine, Stephan Pastis again takes us into the world of Rat, Pig, Zebra, and Goat, and he shows once more just how outrageous-and how hilarious-the unpredictable can be. Always surprising (and only occasionally depraved), Pearls Before Swine is one of the sharpest comic strips in newspapers today. So pull up a stool, have a cup of joe, and enjoy.
Softcover, 8-in. x 8-in., 128 pages. B&W. Cover price $10.99. -
