View scanAlford in Action in Arkansas (1960) is full color, 16 page, 7-in. x 5-in. all newsprint comic book promoting Dale Alford's run for governor of Arkansas in 1960. Thomas Dale Alford was born on January 28, 1916 in New Hope, Arkansas. Alford was an ophthalmologist by trade and served in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1940 to 1946 during World War II. Returning to Arkansas he joined the teaching faculty at the University of Arkansas Medical School at Little Rock and remained there from 1948-1958. Alford was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1958. Alford did not run for re-election in 1960, and instead chose to run against Governor Orval Faubus. Faubus successfully beat back a challenge by Alford in 1960 and again in 1966. Thomas Dale Alford died on 25 January 2000 of congestive heart failure.
