Official Ballot for the Alley Awards - 1970. When Jerry Bails created the Academy of Comic-Books Arts and Sciences (later renamed Academy of Comic-Book Fans and Collectors) as the first official organization of comic book enthusiasts and historians, his friend and legendary comics historian, Roy Thomas, decided there needed to be comic industry awards as well. The Alley became the first known comic book fan awards and were first presented in 1962.
