Four Color comic books issue 939

  • Issue #939
    Four Color (1942-1962 Dell 2nd Series) 939

Milton Caniff's Steve Canyon. Painted cover by George Wilson. Stories by Milton Caniff. Art by Ray Bailey and Milton Caniff. Four Color is the collective title for Dell's long, irregularly published series of one-shots. This issue is based on the "Steve Canyon" comic strip by Milton Caniff. Aircraft designers think their new plane is foolproof, but Steve isn't so sure. He suspects that the experimental new craft is not prepared for the heat generated by re-entry from the upper atmosphere. Research suggests Caniff drew Steve Canyon's heads, while the rest of the art was by Bailey, not an unusual arrangement for the time. Plus illustrated articles about fighter jets, missiles and spaceflights of the late 1950s. Fighter Planes; Breaking the Heat Barrier; Air Force Missiles; Space Flight. 32 pages, Full Color. Cover price $0.10.
