By JOE HARRIS and CHARLIE ADLARD Dark Horse Comics is proud to publish the comic book prequel to this fall's horror film hit-in-the-making! The Tooth Fairy: The Tragic Life of Matilda Dixon serves as a prologue to the film, recounting the century-old events that set a horrifying cycle of violence in motion. The movie stars Emma Caulfield (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and is slated for January 2003 release. The comic book is written by Joe Harris (X-Men) and drawn by Charlie Adlard (The X-Files). The comic focuses on a defining moment in the history of Port Fairy, a small fishing village. Matilda Dixon, a once-beautiful, now-disfigured widow has developed a special relationship with the children of Port Fairy. They bring her their recently shed baby teeth in exchange for coins. However, the mask-clad Dixon's familiarity with the town's children alarms their parents, and when two children go missing a lynch mob gathers to make Matilda pay... In The Tooth Fairy: The Tragic Life of Matilda Dixon, Joe Harris and Charlie Adlard have crafted a horrifying yet heartbreaking tale of loss and loneliness. The claustrophobic small-mindedness of Port Fairy conjures up images of the Salem witch trials and the tragic ending of the book sets the stage for the vengeance and neo-gothic horror of the upcoming Tooth Fairy film. On sale January 1 FC, 32pg (one-shot) . . . $2.99 Cover price $2.99.

1st printing. Story and art by Pierre-Henry Gomont. A must-read thriller at turns madcap and melancholy, about a down-on-their-luck duo of swindlers looting their way through the decaying remains of the USSR. 1990s. Russia. The USSR has ceased to exist. Its dimly remembered promises of utopia have dried up, and amongst the rubble, scavengers and looters abound. Amongst the vast Russian tundra and decaying Soviet buildings, two such scavengers engage in a rather dubious pastime—getting their hands on all sorts of trinkets that might interest wealthy investors. Slava, once a promising young painter, has abandoned his career and ideals to scrounge around with a pal from his school days, the consummate conman Lavrin. The future is up for grabs, and in this anything-goes, dog-eat-dog new world order, Lavrin assures Slava anything and everything can be bought and sold. In this tragicomic thriller, author Pierre-Henry Gomont tells a gripping tale of average people caught up in the turmoil of history in the making. His deeply human characters fumble through a disorienting world—one where the promise of tomorrow has evaporated. They aspire to nothing more than to continue: to continue living, loving, and maybe someday even painting again. Hardcover, 320 pages, full color. Mature Readers Cover price $34.99.
