They're traveling to the small country, because they think Machinesmith is hiding the powerful Argus cannon there! However along the way, four armored assailants attack! So Cap and Sharon jump off the train near a U.S. Air Force base! And then they steal an F-15 fighter jet! Wow, the star-spangled avenger and the former SHIELD agent are breaking all the rules! Can the former Agent 13 somehow regain control of the Helicarrier from half a world away? In the meantime the star-spangled avenger must get to Camp David in Maryland to prevent Machinesmith from harming President Clinton and seizing the nuclear football! Courageously, Cap hikes eastward into Latveria and asks Doctor Doom for transportation! And surprisingly, the benevolent dictator provides it! So the Sentinel of Liberty is on his way back to the U.S.A. to save his beloved country one more time! However before it ends, the star-spangled avenger has a promise to keep to Sharon Carter! Cap treks to the Far East to find and rescue his former girlfriend! But during their adventure, Cap realizes that Sharon has become a very self-reliant woman! And she's not ready to go back to America or back to SHIELD or back to him. A poignant ending for all. (Notes: Captain America returns to Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers 400. Along with his teammates, Cap makes the ultimate sacrifice in the one shot: Onslaught Marvel Universe (1996). The Captain America title (2nd series) is relaunched (with significant continuity changes) in the Heroes Reborn Universe (aka Franklin Richards' pocket universe) in November 1996. Cap returns to the Marvel Universe (aka Earth-616) in the Heroes Reborn: The Return limited series in December 1997. The Captain America 3rd series begins in January 1998 in which Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter pick up where they left off following the events of this issue.
