By 1910, Los Angeles' Old Chinatown had grown to approximately 15 streets. In 1931, the California Supreme Court authorized the construction of the new Union Station upon the site of Old Chinatown. The Los Angeles Chinatown Project Association was formed in 1937 and by February of 1938 the first tenants were moving to New Chinatown. The dedication ceremony for New Chinatown took place June 25, 1938. The Forbidden Palace was a well-known and popular restaurant in LA's New Chinatown. There are photographs of people waiting to get seated in front of the ornate and beautiful restaurant. This is a menu after the restaurant expanded from 447 to include 449 and 451 Gin Ling Way. No date on the menu, circa 1940s. Martinis were .25, dinners were .50, .75 or $1.00 per person. A rare, beautiful and historic document. 7-in. x 11-in., stiff card stock folded in half providing four pages, full color.
