Adventure Comics, an IGA grocery distribution promotional comic (was free with the purchase of IGA's Royal Guest Coffee), is undated, but was released in the 1940s (Overstreet says early 40s, but we think the late 40s is more likely as a copy came in to us along with a lot of other promotional items, all dated late 40s to early 50s), and features characters from titles such as Super-mystery Comics published by Ace Magazines (1940-49). 32-pages, neither stapled nor glued so rare in high grade, 7 x 10-1/4 all newsprint , full color. Stories featuring Magno, the Magnetic Man, The Black Spider, and Peewee Wilson, U.S.A. NOTE: A second edition features Magno, Sky Smith, and Peewee Wilson, U.S.A.

1st printing. Story and art by Mark Beyer. Mark Beyer's outrageously dire, eccentrically charming black comedy is one of the great graphic novels of the Eighties, and a timelessly strange vision of urban life. Amy and Jordan are just like us: hoping for the best, even when things go from bad to worse. They are devoured by fish, beheaded by ghosts, menaced by bears, and hunted by the cops, but still they struggle on, bickering and reconciling, scraping together the rent and trying to find a decent movie. The perfect solace for anxious modern minds, courtesy of one of the great innovators of American comics. Now if only Amy's skin would grow back... Story and art by William Gropper.
William Gropper was one of the great American cartoonists and illustrators of the twentieth century. A student of George Bellows and Robert Henri, he was a prolific newspaper cartoonist, WPA muralist, Guggenheim Fellow, and committed political activist. He was also a master of visual storytelling, best seen in his only full-length narrative work, Alay-Oop.
First published in 1930, this lost classic of the graphic novel presents an unusual love triangle: two circus acrobats and the honey-tongued schemer who comes between them. In page after page of charming, wordless art, Gropper takes us from the big top to bustling New York streets, from a cramped tenement apartment to the shifting landscape of a dream, as his characters struggle with the conflicting demands of career, family, and romance.
