Volume 16 - 1st printing. "The Birthday Gifts!" Written by Louis Cha. Art and cover by Wee Tian Beng. Translated by Jean Lim. This comic series illustrates the love story between an orphan Yang Guo and his beautiful master, Dragon Girl, during the turmoil of the Song Dynasty. Their love was hindered by many factors, including protests from the conservative society which disapproved of marriages between masters and disciples. Though they met with many hardships and were later separated for sixteen years, their devotion for each other never diminished. Their love is best expressed in the theme song: "O Mortals, what is Love that binds beyond life on earth?" Yang Guo also faced another dilemma - the person he respected and trusted most was involved in the death of his father. Despite his trials and tribulations, he emerged a powerful swordsman and gained recognition and respect from the people who despised him. This tender love story, skillfully illustrated by cartoonist Wee Tian Beng, will captivate readers from the first to the last of Yang Guo's exploits. Softcover, 6-in. x 8-in., 150 pages, B&W.
