1st printing. Written by Kim "Howard" Johnson and John Cleese. Art and cover by John Byrne and Mark Farmer. Get ready for SUPERMAN: TRUE BRIT, an original hardcover graphic novel with a new take on the Superman legend, courtesy of writer Kim "Howard" Johnson (Monty Python: The First 280 Years) and with some help from, in his comics debut, Monty Python's John Cleese (Fawlty Towers, A Fish Called Wanda). And with art by fan-favorites John Byrne (JLA, DOOM PATROL) & Mark Farmer (JLA: ANOTHER NAIL), this book is sure to be Super! In this humorous, veddy British tale, the Last Son of Krypton's rocket ship crash-lands in an English town even smaller than Smallville, where the infant Kal-El is taken in by adoptive parents - the Clarks - who raise their son Colin to hide his powers, because the worst thing anyone can do is stand out from the crowd. But when Colin grows up to become a mild-mannered reporter working for the Daily Smear, a powerful tabloid newspaper dedicated to uncovering the biggest story of the century, he finds that the key to his success may be in going public. What will the neighbours think? Softcover, 96 pages, full color. Cover price $17.95.

    By J. Michael Straczynski.

For four decades, J. Michael Straczynski has been one of the most successful writers in Hollywood, one of the few to forge multiple careers in movies, television, and comics. Yet there's one story he's never told before: his own. Joe grew up in abject poverty, living in slums and projects when not on the road, crisscrossing the country in his father's desperate attempts to escape the consequences of his past. Joe found refuge in his beloved comics and his dreams, and his ability to tell stories and make everything come out the way he wanted it. But even as he found success, he could not escape a dark and shocking secret that hung over his family's past.

Becoming Superman lays bare the facts of his life: a story of creation and darkness, hope and success, a larger-than-life villain and a little boy who became the hero of his own life.

    Softcover, 6-in. x 9-in., 480 pages, Text.

    Cover price $18.99.

Before Superman SC (2025 MIT Press) Superhumans of the Radium Age 1-1ST

    (see more images)

1st printing. Edited and Introduction by Joshua Glenn. Superhumans-humans who've evolved into creatures stronger, smarter, and more gifted than we have any reason to be-first showed up in science-fictional narratives during the genre's emergent Radium Age. Originally published between 1902 and 1928, the stories and excerpts anthologized in this volume by Joshua Glenn feature the likes of Marie Corelli's Young Diana, who, having been rendered super-alluring via a rejuvenation experiment, seeks revenge on a sexist society; Thomas Dunbar, one of the first lab-created superhumans; Zoo and Yva, superwomen who contemplate the extermination of us mere mortals, thanks to George Bernard Shaw and H. Rider Haggard; and Alfred Jarry's André Marcueil, a scientist who develops a super-sexual capacity. Hugo Gernsback gives us Ralph 124C 41+, a benevolent super-genius inventor who dwells atop a New York skyscraper. Thea von Harbou's genius scientist, Rotwang, is even less conscientious in his scheming; as is Arthur Conan Doyle's ever-irascible Professor Challenger, here in one of his final outings. Finally, Jean de La Hire's Nyctalope, a popular French super-powered crimefighter character, makes an appearance; and so does Edgar Rice Burroughs's Tarzan of the Apes... though reduced to miniature size. Softcover, 5 1/4-in.x 8-in., 264 pages, Text. Cover price $19.95.

DC Studios Superman The Art and Making of the Film HC (2025 Abrams Books) 1-1ST

    (see more images)

1st printing. Text by James Field. James Gunn's Superman marks the triumphant theatrical return of Smallville's favorite son, kicking off a bold new era of DC storytelling under the umbrella of DC Studios. In Superman: The Art and Making of the Film, fans are granted an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Gunn's vision for a Superman that brings the character back to his optimistic, heroic, and brightly colored roots with all the action, adventure, humor, and heart that audiences have experienced in his previous DC entries, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Creature Commandos. Author James Field (The Art of The Batman) documents every stage of the film's production, from Gunn and his DC Studios's co-chairman and co-CEO Peter Safran's earliest conversations about what their vision for Superman would be and what he would represent, to the comics they would turn to for inspiration, to costume and set design, and continuing on to post-production FX. Field conducted interviews with all of the film's key creatives and presents an engaging narrative of the highly collaborative filmmaking process. The book includes an introduction from writer/director/producer James Gunn, a foreword by Superman himself, David Corenswet, and a plethora of concept art and unit photography. Featured are Metropolis—inspired directly by the art of Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, the staggeringly beautiful Fortress of Solitude, the Daily Planet offices, and other locations in the film, along with costume and character designs for David Corenswet's Superman, Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern, Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan's Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi's Mr. Terrific, and, of course, Krypto the Super Dog. Superman: The Art and Making of the Film is the ultimate companion to the first epic big-screen entry in the DC Studios canon. Hardcover, 12-in. x 9-in., 176 pages, full color. Cover price $50.00.
