After many years of talking about Moby-Dick (the book and the film), Victorian ghost stories, comics, folklore and history in general, Mike Mignola, Hellboy, and Gary Gianni embarked on a graphic-novel adventure titled Into the Silent Sea. Mike Mignola's Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea Studio Edition is a glorious, oversized deluxe treatment showcasing Gianni's original artwork in an exquisite hardcover book. The 144-page collection includes revealing commentary regarding how two legendary comic-book creators seamlessly developed the Hellboy sea saga from the core of an idea into a finished work of art. The combined talents of Mignola and Gianni are on display as the reader follows along the path of the creative process: The script, preliminary roughs, reference photos, completed pencil drawings and finished inks are all shared and discussed. The pencil drawings, many of which have never been seen before by the public, provide insight not only for the student but also for any fan who enjoys lavishly reproduced comic art.

By Tim Lebbon.
Hellboy is called to Amalfi, Italy, by Franca, a young member of the Esposito family. She fears that a dark curse on her family is about to claim her cousin as its next victim. Hellboy makes his way to their large home...and he encounters a flaming demon - a fire wolf - which he successfully fights off. Hellboy and Franca make their way to Pompeii, where Franca remembers seeing an image of the fire wolf whilst on an archaeological dig. Hellboy unearths the shriveled corpse of a demon hunter who was buried during the AD 79 eruption of Vesuvius, and it tells him of the fire demon that escaped the grip of the volcano . . . leading to that devastating eruption.
As the volcano rumbles again with a new thirst for human blood an eruption even more devastating than that historical catastrophe looks very, very close.

1st printing. Written by Scott Bukatman. Art and cover by Mike Mignola. Hellboy, Mike Mignola's famed comic book demon hunter, wanders through a haunting and horrific world steeped in the history of weird fictions and wide-ranging folklores. Hellboy's World shows how our engagement with Hellboy's world is a highly aestheticized encounter with comics and their materiality. Drawing upon other media - including children's books, sculpture, pulp fiction, cinema, graphic design, painting, and illuminated manuscripts - Bukatman reveals the mechanics of creating a world on the page. Monsters populate the world of Hellboy comics, but Bukatman argues that comics are themselves little monsters, unruly sites of sensory and cognitive pleasures that exist, happily, on the margins. Softcover, 5 1/2-in. x 8-in., 280 pages, Text (with full color Chapter Illustrations). Cover price $26.95.

New Edition - 1st printing. Story and art by Mike Mignola. Mike Mignola is one of the preeminent comics creators of the past 25 years. His career was already firmly established for his outstanding work on characters like Batman, Wolverine, a myriad of beautiful covers and more... And then came Hellboy. Mike's iconic creation struck a meteoric chord with fans from the very start and has not abated in the 20 years since his debut. This Artist's Edition features the first five issues of Hellboy in Hell as well as a wealth of historic supplementary material: the first three Hellboy stories-the two initial four-pagers, produced for promotional purposes, and the 10-page story from John Byrne's Next Men #21-plus "The Corpse," and two other tales selected by Mignola for inclusion. All but three pages of Mike Mignola's Hellboy Artist's Edition have been shot from the original art and showcases Mignola's gorgeous work as closely as possible to the physical page-this is a book for fans of great storytelling and students of the craft.
