Krazy Little Comics (1967 Topps): The Amusing Spider-Guy is one of sixteen parody mini-comics originally produced as test market items in 1967, by the Topps Chewing Gum Company. They did not see full national distribution. All were written by Roy Thomas and feature Wally Wood cover and interior art. These minis spoof not only Marvel and DC super-heroes, but other comic characters as well, like the Phantom, Prince Valiant, and Tarzan. These possibly predate, or are at least contemporaneous with, Not Brand Ecch! #1 (08/1967), and are among the rarest of the Merry Marvel Marching Society era items. Full color, 2.5-in. x 3.5-in., no cover price.

1st printing. While the second comic book revolution can accurately be stated to have begun with the Fantastic Four in 1961, the focal point of that period would have to narrow down to one character who epitomized the new trend towards "humanized" superheroes. Spider-Man was the alienated adolescent - the geek, the nerd, the outsider who didn't fit in with everyone else and who didn't have a clue as to what he could do to change his lot in life. Then along came a spider.... Take a look at the early years, history, the influence of the Romitas (Sr. & Jr.), and much more as Comics File Magazine puts the spotlight on Spider-Man! Softcover, 8 1/2-in. x 11-in., 56 pages, B&W. Cover price $5.95.

1st printing. In the early 1960s, Marvel Comics introduced Spider-Man, a comic book superhero unlike any other. When in superhero mode, he had amazing powers like other heroes. In real life, however, he was a clumsy, geeky teenager! With this most original twist on the genre, creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko wrote Spider-Man stories that have captivated millions of readers, right up to the present. In this book, popular DC Comics writer Paul Kupperberg relates the story behind the creation of Spider-Man and the reasons for the superhero's immense popularity. For those who want to know more about the Spider-Man legend, this book is the perfect starting point. Hardcover, 50 pages, 7 3/4-in. x 9 1/4-in., text with full color illustrations and photos.
