1st printing. By Alexander Chatziioannou. Foreword by Joel Couture. FROM ANTS TO ZOMBIES is a showcase for the remarkable range horror gaming has achieved, across six decades, from the 1970s to the 2020s, and over 70 hardware platforms, from the ZX Spectrum to the Xbox Series X. More than 130 horror titles are analyzed and contextualised across thirteen thematically-divided chapters, covering a variety of genres (from rail shooters to open-world RPGs), settings (from haunted mansions to infested space stations) and shades of fear (from creeping existential dread to stomach-churning outbursts of violence). The discussion is enlivened by exclusive commentary from pioneering horror developers such as Keiichiro Toyama (Silent Hill), Jane Jensen (Gabriel Knight), Ken Levine (System Shock 2), Sandy White (Ant Attack), David Riordan (It Came from the Desert), Paul Norman (Forbidden Forest), Graeme Devine (The 7th Guest), and many more. 1st printing. Edited by Richard J. Arndt. Foreword by Stephen J. Bissette. In 1954, the comic book industry instituted the Comics Code, a set of self-regulatory guidelines that effectively banned genuine horror coimcs. Because the Code applied only to color comics, many artists and writers turned to black and white to circumvent the Code's confines. With the 1964 publication of Creepy #1 by Warren Publishing, black-and-white horror comics experienced a revival that continued into the early 21st century. This work offers a comprehensive history and retrospective of the black-and-white horror coimcs that flourished on the newsstands from 1964 to 2004. Softcover, 7-in. x 10-in., 164 pages, Text (with B&W Illustrations and Photos). Cover price $55.00.

1st printing. Written by Lars Jacobson. Art and cover by Eduardo Francisco. Introduction by Lars Jacobson. Travel with Kurtz and his family as they enter the "heart of darkness" on a humanitarian mission for Belgian King Leopold's Congo Free State, opening a trading post in the uncharted interior of the Congo jungle to promote free markets and end slavery. With the help of a local tribe, they establish the post, but to survive in this lawless jungle, they must contend with murderous slave traders from Zanzibar, corrupt Belgian officials, evil imperialists, psychotic explorers, and cannibalistic tribes. Along the way, however, they encounter a primordial evil whose origins and mythology date back to the womb of civilization, perverting minds and corrupting souls while preying on the worst instincts of mankind. The locals speak of this insidious evil in fearful whispers, calling it, "The Horror." The Horror provides a prequel to Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness," exploring the origins of one of the most enigmatic characters in storytelling while examining one of the worst atrocities and humanitarian disasters ever recorded. Hardcover, 104 pages, full color. Cover price $24.99.

1st printing. Written by Magdalene Visaggio. Art and cover by Jenn St-Onge. Welcome to Bolingbroke. It's a small town just like any other . . . or so eighth graders Val and Lanie think. They're the best of best friends-they love the same comics, they watch the same shows, and they're always there for each other. Which is important when you're queer, like Lanie, or on the spectrum, like Val, and just don't seem to fit in anywhere. When a school project about their hometown's supernatural history leads to a for-real ghost sighting, Val and Lanie realize Bolingbroke might not be as boring as they'd always thought. But after a run-in with the resident middle school queen bee (who also happens to be Lanie's former friend), they decide to take things to the next level . . . and accidentally summon the Ojja-Wojja, a demonic presence connected to a slew of mysterious tragedies throughout Bolingbroke's sordid history. Now all heck has broken loose. With the whole town acting weird and nowhere left to turn, it's going to be up to Val, Lanie, and their small group of friends to return things to normal-if "normal" is even something they want to return to. Softcover, 6-in.x 9-in., 192 pages, full color. Cover price $13.99.

    By Tom Weaver.

Poverty row horror films were usually inexpensively (some would say cheaply) produced with writing that ranged from bad to atrocious. Yet these movies with their all-star horror casts (Carradine, Lugosi, Karloff, et al.) and their ape men, mad monsters, devil bats and white zombies still have a loyal audience 50 years after their release.

Essays contain full filmographic data on the 31 horror chillers made by the three studios from 1940 through 1946 and are arranged by year of release. Each entry includes the date of release, length, production credits, cast credits, interview quotes, and a plot synopsis with critical commentary. Filmographies for prominent horror actors and actresses, from John Abbott to George Zucco, are provided in the appendices.

Slow Death Zero is a wild and outrageous collection of environmental-themed horror stories. Representing the "Old School" Slow Death crew, we have cover artist William Stout, Tim Boxell, Bryan Talbot, Errol McCarthy, and even (gasp!) ol' man Gore himself, Richard freakin' Corben, this time teamed with frequent Creepy/Eerie collaborator, Bruce Jones, himself a horror comics anthologist of terror-ific taste!

There's also a whole bunch o' talents herein who came to prominence a tad later, including Rick Veitch and Hunt Emerson, plus Weirdo mag alumni Peter Bagge, Drew Friedman, Carel Moisewitch, Savage Pencil, Rick Altergott, and (almost-Weirdo) Danny Hellman, plus work by cartoonist vets Peter Kuper, Bob Fingerman, Mike Diana, and Kellie Strom.

Softcover, 128 pages, PC/PB&W. Mature Readers

    Cover price $24.95.
