Pairing innocuous messages like "Good news will come to you from far away" with a stark black and white drawing of riot police fleeing in terror from a Molotov cocktail streaking through the air creates jarring juxtapositions.

    A very dark humor runs throughout these couplings, although Hand admits, "what other book is going to use fortune cookie messages to make you feel depressed?
