"Smilin'" Jack Martin has humorous adventures in the air and on the ground. Jack's new partner is Cotton, who mooches off everyone and demands special treatment as Smilin' Jack's partner. The hapless, childlike but cheerful Pvt. Buck (a play on "buck private") delivers military-themed humor, such as the uniform that fits Private Buck like a tent. Buck launches a campaign against the camp cook. Buck confuses a mine with a bowling ball. One-panel gags provide slices of life in uniform during the 1940s; most of these strips predate the US entry into WWII. 8 1/2-in. x 11 1/2-in, 48 pages, B&W. Cover price $0.10.
