    Low Orbit Anthology (2007) 1

LOW ORBIT is a sci-fi/fantasy anthology featuring seven unique stories from creators NICK BRADSHAW, SEAN 'CHEEKS' GALLOWAY, ALINA GALLOWAY, RYAN ODAGAWA, JONBOY MEYER, ALLISON STROM, KEVIN DALTON, MARK ANDREW SMITH and MICHAEL WOODS. LONE STAR COMICS REVIEW BY REGIONAL MANAGER AARON SETTLE: If you're looking for something different, or better yet several something different, check out the Low Orbit Anthology. Low Orbit, with it's quick eight page stories spanning several different genres, brings back memories of Dark Horse Presents. While most of the stories are science fiction or fantasy, they represent a variety of artistic and storytelling styles that range from silly to very moving. Like any collection of this sort, not all of the stories will appeal to every reader, but even the pickiest reader will find several to their liking. "Songs From the Gully" and "Icarus Three" are probably my two favorite stories, but there are several more that I enjoyed. A word of warning though, these are eight page stories in an anthology so there is not a lot of closure. Readers can expect to be left anxiously awaiting the next installment for several of these stories, but that excitement of waiting for the next part of the story is part of what makes reading comic books fun. Cover price $6.99.

1st printing. Written by Ryan North. Art and cover by Chris Fenoglio. Warp into the action with Star Trek's first-ever interactive original graphic novel! Mariner just wants to have a normal day, but no matter what side of the bed she wakes up on, the world is ending. Literally. If she has coffee, Borg attack! If she has raktajino, cue the Romulan boarding party! And in each scenario, Mariner and her friends end up dead, sometimes the ship is destroyed-and the day starts all over again. But by exploring the different paths, you, the reader, can discover things that Mariner can't. There are inconsistencies that don't make sense-putting aside the fact that Mariner's choice of drink each morning shouldn't affect which alien races attack the ship, other facts of her world seem to change too. Something is definitely off. It's up to you to discover! Softcover, 6-in. x 9-in., 208 pages, full color. Cover price $24.99.

1st printing. Written by David Barnett. Art by Anna Morozova and Mike Walters. Cover by Anna Morozova. For as long as anyone can remember, Wychdusk Manor has been the school to which all the top magical novices are sent, where they are trained to become the world's greatest wizards. Androgeus Frost, part of one of the wizarding worlds' most esteemed families, always thought it was a sure thing he'd get in, but somehow finds himself dumped at Lowborn High, a struggling inner-city comprehensive school for those with mediocre magical talent. Androgeus finds himself with all the other duds, drop-outs, and those who don't have the upper-class wizarding family background. Shudder-To-Think, Pennsylvania, has been on fire for years. The coal mines beneath it are long since abandoned. The woods are full of rabbits with human eyes, a deer woman who stalks hungry girls, and swaths of skinless men. And the people in Shudder-to-Think?

Well, theyre not doing so well either. When El and Octavia wake up in a movie theater with no memory of the last few hours of their lives, the two teenage dirtbags begin a surreal and terrifying journey to discover the truth about the strange town that they call home. Low Moon HC (2009 Fantagraphics) By Jason 1-1ST

This item is not in stock at MyComicShop. If you use the "Add to want list" tab to add this issue to your want list, we will email you when it becomes available.

1st printing. By Jason. The acclaimed graphic novelist Jason returns with his most eagerly awaited book yet, thanks to the inclusion of the title story, the world's first (and likely last) chess western. Originally serialized in 2008 to a huge (and hugely delighted) audience in the New York Times Sunday Magazine "Funny Pages" section, "Low Moon" made Jason's 2008 appearance at the MoCCA Arts Festival in Manhattan the talk of the prestigious show, catapulting the Norwegian star to an even new level of mass appeal. This 216-page hardcover book features five yarns - all brand new with the exception of the aforementioned "Low Moon," which is collected into book form for the first time. The new stories lead off with "Emily Says Hello," a typically deadpan Jason tale of murder, revenge and sexual domination. Then, the wordless "&" tells two tales at once: one about a skinny guy trying to steal enough money to save his ill mother, and the other about a fat guy murderously trying to woo his true love. The reason we follow these two parallel stories becomes obvious only on the very last page, in Jason's inimitable genre-mashing style. "Early Film Noir" can best be described as The Postman Always Rings Twice meets Groundhog Day. But starring cavemen. And finally, "You Are Here" features alien kidnappings, space travel, and the pain and confusion of family ties, culminating in an enigmatic finale that rivals Jason's greatest twists. Funny, poignant, and wry, Low Moon shows one of the world's most acclaimed graphic novelists at the absolute peak of his powers. Hardcover, 6 1/2-in. x 8 1/2-in., 216 pages, full color. Cover price $24.99.

Written by Brian Buccellato. Art and cover by Alexis Sentenac.

Human lives are supposed to be priceless. Theirs are worthless. Los Angeles is not all sunshine, surfing, and red carpets. Behind the facade, the City of Angels is an illicit, morally ambiguous world of fading dreams. Grand is a revenge-seeking cop clinging to the good man he was. Leonard is an addict who wants his family back. Rip is a haunted thug embroiled in underground fighting. And Wendall is the criminal corruptor pulling all of their strings. In the seedy L.A. underworld, lives intersect like freeway overpasses. When Wendall's poker game is robbed, three lowlifes attempt to stay one step ahead of each other, because redemption or destruction is their only ticket out.

Perfect for fans of gritty crime stories: movies like Training Day; TV series like The Wire, Breaking Bad, and Narcos; graphic novels like Darwyn Cooke's Parker series and Ed Brubaker's Criminal.

For the first time ever, legendary photographer and videographer Clayton Patterson is the subject of a biographical graphic novel anthology. Like no other, Clayton has documented the often-overlooked people and cultural contributions of New York's Lower East Side, sometimes finding himself in perilous situations as a result. Clayton lived at the intersection of numerous underground cultures, from drag queens to punks, gangbangers to tattoo artists, an icon of an increasingly vanishing New York.

Now, in the tradition of Harvey Pekar's American Splendor, eighteen artists pay tribute to him in this graphic novel anthology.
